Abstract

A spirit level which contains one or more vials 1 each of which can be illuminated as the need arises. The light sources being energised via a battery pack 3 and a switch 4 that are fitted to the level in such a way as not to compromise the use of the tool. The spirit level may have more or less three bubble vials 1, with each being illuminated by its own LED or lamp.

Description

1 Spirit Level 2361317 This invention relates to a spirit level. Which
contains individual light sources for each vial.(sight window).
Spirit levels are well known tools that are used in a variety of trades, they come in a wide range of sizes. Regardless of size they all rely on the same method in order to work, being fitted with one or more vials (sight windows) within which is a horizontal or vertical sealed tube that contains a quantity of spirit or other liquid, insufficient liquid is supplied to fill the tube thereby creating a bubble, it is the movement of the bubble towards or away from a central marked area that provides an indication as to the horizontal or vertical alignment of an object against which a level might be placed.
Spirit levels as they are at this time produced, are all difficult to read in poor light, they are also difficult to read when the vials are held against a dark background.
According to the present invention there is provided an individual light source for each separate vial in the level. The light is provided by a light emitting diode/diodes or bulb/ bulbs which is/are energised via a switch and battery pack, affixed to the beam of the level in such a way as not to compromise the use of the tool.
The objective of this invention is to enable a user to employ the level in poor light with ease.
Preferably the beam of the spirit level is made of metal or plastics material, but it may instead be made of wood, or from a combination of these materials.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which.
FIG 1. Shows the level in perspective.
FIG 2. shows one vial with the cover removed all other vials being substantially the same.
FIG 3. shows the battery/switch pack.
Referring to the drawing, the level comprises a body 5 within the length of which are fixed three transparent plastic vials 1 these are cemented into position. Adjacent to the vial there is fitted a bulb holder or a light emitting diode holder 6. This assembly is protected by a removable cover 2 Also fitted to the body there is a battery/switch pack 3 which contains two batterys 7 and a switch 4.
In use one depresses the switch and each vial is illuminated.

2 A spirit level as claimed in claim 1 wherein the light is provided by three low voltage bulbs.
3 A spirit level as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein less than three vials are provided.
4 A spirit level as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein more than three vials are provided.
