Abstract
A Georgian bar 4 for bonding onto a pane 3 or panel in a window or door, has a profile with an abutment face 6 for abutting the pane 3 or panel, the abutment face extending between two side faces 7 extending when the Georgian bar 4 is mounted on the pane or panel at an angle from the pane or panel, and the abutment face 6 is provided with a shallow longitudinal groove 10, 12 for receiving a bonding material 13. The shallow groove 10 may extend transversely over the major part of the abutment face 6. The shallow groove 10 may be slightly wider than 19 mm and the shallow groove 12 may be less than 6 mm wide. The shallow groove 12 may also be approximately 3 mm wide. The shallow groove 10, 12 may be placed centrally in the abutment face 6 and the abutment face may be provided with a relatively wide shallow groove 10 and a relatively narrow shallow groove 12 in the bottom 11 of the wide groove 10. Longitudinal gaskets 9 may also extend from the side faces 7 to abut the pane 3 or panel when the bar 4 is mounted in position.
Description
2360814 The present invention relates to a georgian bar f or bonding onto
a pane or a panel in a window or a door and having a profile with an abutment face or base for abutting the pane or panel, said abutment face 5 extending between two side faces extending when the georgian bar is mounted on a pane or panel at an angle from said pane or panel.
Windows and doors comprising a frame including sash bars such as mullions and transoms are well known and desired because of a nice appearance. However the manufacture of such windows and doors is rather time and labour consuming due to the fact that such windows and doors comprise a great number of parts to be assembled including panes or panels to be mounted between the frame parts and sash bars. For this reason it is known to provide a window or a door having a single pane or panel with georgian bars mounted on the pane or panel in order to obtain a window or door which is relatively simple to produce but which has the attractive appearance provided by the sash bars.
The object is to provide a georgian bar with features facilitating its mounting on a pane or panel of a window or a door.
This is obtained by a georgian bar as referred to in the opening paragraph which is characterized in that said abutment face is provided with a shallow longitudinal groove for receiving a bonding material. This feature facilitates the application of a bonding material during the mounting of the georgian bar and thus facilitates the overall mounting operation.
In one embodiment the shallow groove extends transversely over the major part of the abutment face and thereby the shallow groove is preferably slightly wider than 19 mm. This facilitates the application of a standard 19 mm. double sided adhesive tape which 2 during mounting is guided into the shallow groove.
In another embodiment the shallow groove is less than 6 mm wide and preferably approximately 3 mm wide. This provides for accommodating the nozzle of a glue applicator thus facilitating the application of glue or hot melt adhesive to the georgian bar during the mounting operation.
Preferably the shallow groove is placed centrally in the abutment face.
In a preferred embodiment the abutment face is provided with a relatively wide shallow groove and relatively narrow shallow groove in the bottom of the wide groove. Hereby is obtained a georgian bar which provides for optional facilitated use of double sided adhesive tape or glue or hot melt adhesive.
The georgian bar preferably further com prises longitudinal gaskets extending from the side f aces to abut on the pane or panel when the georgian bar is in a mounted position.
The invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given hereinbelow and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illus tration only, and thus are not limitative to the present invention and wherein Fig. 1 illustrates a window, Fig. 2 shows a section along line II-II in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 shows the profile of a georgian bar accord ing to the invention before mounting.
Fig. 1 shows a window 1 with a circumferential frame 2 and a pane 3. The pane 3 is as to appearance divided into two parts 3a, 3b by means of a georgian bar 4 which is stuck onto the pane 3.
Fig. 2 shows the prof ile of the georgian bar 4 in its mounted position. The georgian bar 4 comprise a 3 body 5 which in the shown embodiment is hollow and made by extrusion of plastics material. Any suited material could however be used e.g. metal (aluminium) or wood.
The georgian bar 4 has a base or abutment f ace 6 and side faces 7 extending generally perpendicular to the abutment f ace 6. Further the georgian bar 4 has a generally roof shaped top face 8. Lips or gaskets 9 extend from the area of the lower parts of the top face 8 and the upper parts of the side faces 7. The gaskets 9 is preferably coextruded with the body 5 from a material with a suitable resilience. In Fig. 3 which shows the georgian bar 4 before mounting the gaskets 9 are unstressed whereas in the mounted position shown in Fig. 2 they are bend and therefore stressed due to their resilience.
In the abutment face 6 the georgian bar 4 is provided with a shallow groove or recess 10 with a generally plane bottom 11. This recess or groove 10 is adapted to accommodate a strip of standard double sided adhesive tape and may be approximately 19 mm wide and 0,5 mm deep.
The abutment face 6 is further provided with a relatively narrow groove 12 situated in the bottom 11 of the wider groove 10. This second groove 12 is preferably approximately 3 mm wide to accommodate the nozzle of a glue applicator not shown.
In accordance with the present invention it is sufficient for the georgian bar 4 to comprise one of the grooves 10, 12 but preferably both grooves 10, 12 are present to provide for optional fastening of the georgian bar 4 by means of glue or hot melt adhesive placed as a bead in and extending f rom the narrow groove 12 as it is shown by numeral 13 in Fig. 2 or by means of double sided adhesive tape placed in the wider groove 10.
