Abstract

A syringe holder comprises a main body 1 with integral hook 4 for hooking onto a cot or bed frame, at least one slot 3 for holding a syringe, a stabilizer bar 6, and either screw holes 2 or a slot 5 for a picture hook for attachment to a wall. The stabilizer bar allows the holder to be locked against the vertical bars of a cot or bed frame, as well as providing a back plate when attached to a wall. The syringe body slots which may be of different sizes, and allow a syringe to be inserted from above and held in place whilst allowing visual access to the syringe body markings. Removable struts (9, Fig 4) are optionally provided which attach to slots 7 to allow the holder to be used in a free standing mode.

Description

2360455 PORTABLE STABILISED SYRINGE BODY HOLDER This invention relates to
a syringe body holder that may be quickly placed for use in a number of different environments. It may be suspended via either its own hook or holes. It may also be ftee-standing.
In certain medical conditions people sometimes need liquids to be supplied to their body via a tube. One end of the tube will be installed into the person's body, the other end will often be connected to the body of a syringe. The required liquid will be poured into the syringe body then will pass down the tube into the person's body. This movement will occur because the syringe body will be held at a greater height than the height of the position of the tube within the person. Thus gravity will be supplying the pressure. This height difference will often be maintained by a person (often the carer) holding the syringe body vertically until the liquid has been transferred.
An object of this invention is to provide the person holding the syringe body with a place to put the syringe body that maintains the required height, vertical aspect and stability of the syringe body whilst maintaining visibility of the amount of liquid remaining in the syringe body and the ability to add more liquid whilst the syringe body is in the holder.
Accordingly, this invention provides a syringe body holder including one or more syringe body slots attached to a strip of material with a hook and slots at the top end and a horizontal stabiliser bar at the bottom end attached via a spacer. In addition there are slots at the bottom end of the strip and stabiliser bar to allow optional support struts to be inserted for greater stability when free standing.
Preferably the holder is made of plastic to allow for easy cleaning.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a front/side view of the whole holder - optional support struts 9 not fitted.
FIGURE 2 shows a side view of the whole holder - optional support struts 9 not fitted.
FIGURE 3 shows a top view of the syringe slots 3.
FIGURE 4 shows the optional support struts 9.
As shown in Figure 1, the holder comprises a strip of material 1 that is fashioned in such a way that it provides a hook 4 for hanging over a horizontal edge such as a cot side, a slot 5 for hanging on a picture hook and two holes 2 for screwing the holder in a permanent siting. In addition it provides a backplate 10 that is in line with the back of the stabiliser bar 6 thus providing good vertical stability when hung against a vertical surface such as a wall.
The slots 3 for two different size syringes aflow the main part of the syringe bodies to be inserted but restrict the tabs at the top of the syringes - thus securing the syringes.
The width of the stabiliser bar 6 and the width of the main strip 1 will both be greater than the gap between the vertical bars in cot sides and cot ends.
The slots 7 present in the strip 1 and the stabiliser bar 6 allow for optional support struts 9 to be inserted to provide a greater footprint to the holder and thus increase stability when the holder is used in a ftee-standing mode- 2 As shown in Figure 2, the stabiliser bar 6 is attached to the main strip via a spacer 8. The length of the spacer 8 will be greater than the diameter of the vertical bars found in cot sides and cot ends.
When used in conjunction with a cot the holder would be secured by rotating the holder through 90 degrees so the stabaliser bar 6 was in a vertical position and could be pushed between the vertical bars of the cot. The holder would then be turned back through 90 degrees and hung from the top of the cot via hook 4. In this way the holder would be locked to the cot because the vertical cot bars would be sandwiched between the stabiliser bar 6 and the strip 1.
As shown in Figure 3, there is a vertical gap at the front of each syringe slot to allow volume markings printed on the syringe body to be visible. This embodiment show slots for two different size syringes but other embodiments may have a different combination of sizes and slots.
As shown in Figure 4, the optional support struts 9 are of the same profile as the slots 7 present in the strip 1 and the stabiliser bar 6. The struts would be a tight fit in the slots 7.
The above embodiment with 1OmI and 60nil syringe body slots would be suitable for tubefeeding milk to infants.
