Abstract

An excavating machine includes a plurality of wheels rotating either in the same plane or on the same axis, the wheels being made from or covered with an abrasive material. In an embodiment the machine is mounted on a heavy frame which is fixed to part of the tunnel which has already been excavated and power is transmitted to the abrasive wheels either via a chain or a rotating axis, also a hydraulic system is located between the wheels and the frame to provide the pressure necessary for excavating.

DESCRIPTION
The new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation is used to cut free large volumes of earth in the tunnel, according to the "NEW EXCAVATION METHOD FOR TUNNEV' (Patent Pending). The volume of earth removed is a few centimeters thick and a few meters high and wide.
The new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation has a number of wheels covered with abrasive material so that when rotating and being applied with pressure against the earth volume to be cut free, it will slice through the earth as far as the frame and power transmission reach, typically between three and 6 meters. The frame and power transmission is designed so as to fit into the small volume opened in the earth by the new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation.
There are two types of earth removing machines for tunnel excavation.
a) a new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation as described above with a number of wheels in the same plane. In this case the plane in which the wheels lie is in the same plane as the plane of the free volume created.
b) a new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation as described above with a number of wheels on the same axis. In this case the axis on which the wheels rotate is in the same plane as the plane of the free volume created.
Power is transmitted to the wheels through either a chain or a rotating axis with a 90 degree power transmission device. In order for the pressure to be applied consistently, the new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation is mounted on a sturdy, heavy frame that is fixed in some way to the bottom or the ceiling or the walls of the part of the tunnel already excavated. An hydraulic or similar system fitted between new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation and the frame provides the required pressure.

Claims (4)

1. A new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation provided with a number of wheels rotating in the same plane or in the same axis built in such a material or covered with such material so as to have an abrasive effect on the earth on which it is applied with pressure.
2. A new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation as claimed in claim 1, that is used to remove earth from a volume a few centimeters thick and some tens of centimeters high and some tens of centimeters wide in order to cut free larger volumes of earth in the context of tunnel excavation.
3. A new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 and as described in Figure 1.
4. A new earth removing machine for tunnel excavation as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 and as described in Figure 2.
