Abstract

A cleaning sponge / soap dish 1 has a depression or hollow 2 on the topside, which is shaped to hold a bar of soap of a similar shape. On the underside of the cleaning sponge / soap dish is a scouring pad 3, which collects soap residues. The cleaning sponge / soap dish and the soap residues can be used to dissolve and remove dirt and grease from work surfaces, sinks, baths, shower units etc. The cleaning sponge / soap dish can be made of a sponge material of any porosity, colour, shape or size.

Description

1 2359253 CLEANNG SPONGE / SOAP DISH This invention relates to a Cleaning
Sponge, which can also be used as a soap dish.
Soap dishes are products, which are designed to hold bars of soap. Existing soap dish designs usually only incorporate one or two of the following functions: To hold the soap. To keep the soap dry. To prevent the soap residue from collecting on the work surface.
Cleaning sponges are products designed to clean baths, sinks, shower units, work tops etc. They are usually made of a sponge material and have a scouring pad on one side to remove stubborn dirt and grease. A disadvantage of these sponges is that they require a separate detergent to dissolve the dirt and grease before it can be removed.
The objects of this invention are to keep soap drier and make cleaning quicker and easier. Any soap residue collected on the scouring pad can be used as a detergent, thereby eliminating waste.
Accordingly this invention provides a sponge with a depression or hollow on the topside, which is shaped to hold a bar of soap of a similar shape. The underside of the sponge has a scouring pad, which is used for removing stubborn dirt and grease.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a view of the cleaning sponge / soap dish from the top.
Figure 2 shows a view of the cleaning sponge / soap dish from the side.
2 Referring to the drawing the cleaning sponge / soap dish comprises of a main body 1 made of a sponge material. This sponge material may be provided in a range of porosities depending on size and application. The sponge material may appear in any colour. The sponge material may be provided in any shape or size and preferably may have the appearance of a fish or other animal.
The depression or hollow on the topside 2, which is shaped to hold a bar of soap of similar shape is deep enough to ensure the bar of soap, is held secure.
The scouring pad 3 on the underside of the cleaning sponge / soap dish is flexible enough to clean uneven areas and abrasive enough to remove stubborn dirt and grease without damaging the work surface or harming the user.
The cleaning sponge / soap dish can be placed on the side of a sink or bath and used to hold a bar of soap. The absorbent properties of the sponge soak up residue from a wet bar of soap and allow the bar of soap to dry. The soap residue then travels to the bottom of the sponge, aided by gravity, where it collects on the scouring pad. When the bath or sink need to be cleaned, the soap bar can be removed from the cleaning sponge 1 soap dish. The cleaning sponge / soap dish and soap residue, which has collected on it, can then be used to remove dirt and grease from the surfaces of the bath or sink. After use, the cleaning sponge 1 soap dish can be rinsed clean with water and rung dry ready to receive the bar of soap again.
