Abstract

235,904. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. June 20, 1924, [Convention date]. Sets of resistances; wire resistances, cored cnd enclosed.-In wireless receiving and other installations for amplifying electric oscillations by means of discharge tubes with incandescent cathode, anode, and one or more grids and in which potential differences at an anode resistance of one tube are transmitted through a condenser to the circuit of the controlling grid of the next tube, the anode resistance, the condenser, and a grid-leak resistance of the second tube are arranged in a closed exhausted vessel to form a self-contained unit with the condenser connected to one end of each resistance and with the ends of the two resistances connected to four contactmaking members, such as plugs or terminals. for inclusion in the anoda and grid circuits of the tubes. The ur.it may be of the size and shape of a wireless receiving valve. A wound condenser may be enclosed in a glass or other insulating vessel 20 with the space between filled with paraffin, and two resistances 10, 12 comprising constantan or like wire helically wound about a yarn, asbestos, or like insulating core are wound around the outer wall of the vessel 20, the whole being enclosed in a glass bulb 24 connected by a metal ring 23 to a plug 22 carrying four contact pins 21 connected to the resistances 10, 12. The bulb 24 is exhausted, the parts being thus prevented from becoming moist. In a modification, a wound condenser is slipped over a glass stem carried by the pinch of an exhausted bulb and two silite resistance rods at the sides of the condenser are carried by the pinch.
