Abstract

Novelty article arrangement comprises a strip 1 of material, perhaps card, demountable on a bottle (5) having a removable cap (6). A sheet-form character-representation 10 and support component 13 are adapted to be removable from the strip, perhaps by pressing out aided with perforations. The support component 13 is dimensioned to be securely fitted into the open end of cap 6, and may be disc-shaped. The representation 10 is then supported in the component 13, perhaps by a portion 12 of the representation 10 fitting into a slit 15. The strip 1 may have an aperture 3 which fits over the bottle (5) and may fold into several sections. The representation 10 may be an animal, human or cartoon. If the representation is a sportsperson, then several of the novelties could be used in a game, perhaps football/soccer.

Description

2358510 NOVELTY ARTICLE ARRANGEMENT The present invention is concerned
with a novelty article arrangement particularly, but not exclusively, for use in the sales promotion of bottled liquids, such as drinks.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a novelty article arrangement comprising a strip of sheet material adapted to be demountable on a bottle, the bottle being provided with a removable cap; a sheet form character-representation adapted to be separated from the strip and a support component for the character representation adapted to be separated from the strip, the support component being adapted to supportingly receive a portion of the character-representation; the support component being dimensioned to be securely fitted into an open end of the bottle cap when the cap is removed from the bottle, whereby the character representation is supportable by the cap on a surface.
According to another aspect of the present invention there is provided a bottle having a removable cap and provided with a novelty article arrangement comprising a strip of sheet material adapted to be demountable on the bottle, a character-representation adapted to be separated from the strip and a support component for the character-representation adapted to be separated from the strip, the support component being adapted to supportingly receive a portion of the character representation; the support component being dimensioned to be securely fitted into an open end of the bottle cap when the cap is removed from the bottle, whereby the character-representation is supportable by the cap on a surface.
According to a still further aspect of the present invention, there is provided a bottle cap having a support component securely fitted into an open end thereof, a sheet-form characterrepresentation having a portion thereof supportingly received by the support component, whereby the character-representation is supportable by the cap on a surface.
is In accordance with this still further aspect of the present invention, the sheet-form character representation, the support component and the bottle cap may result from a novelty article arrangement comprising a strip of sheet material adapted to be demountable on a bottle, the bottle being provided with the cap in removable form; the character-representation and the support component being adapted to be separated from the strip.
The bottle may have a neck on which the strip of sheet material is demountable.
- 3 The strip of sheet material may have a portion adapted to at least partly encircle the neck of the bottle. Such portion may comprise an aperture in the sheet material.
The strip of sheet material may be provided with one or more hinged portions, one of which hinged portions may comprise the portion adapted to at least partly encircle the neck of the bottle. 10 The characterrepresentation and/or the support component may be adapted to be separated from the strip by pressing out from the strip. The strip may be perforated or slitted to enable pressing is out of the characterrepresentation and/or the support component from the strip. The support component may be provided with an aperture, such as a slit, therein, into which aperture is 20 insertable the portion of the characterrepresentation. The character-representation may be a representation of a human, animal form or cartoon character and the portion supportingly received by the support component may 25 represent one or more feet or legs, whereby the character-representation is supportable in upright posture by the cap.
Such represented human form may comprise a sportsperson, such as a footballer.
The character-representation may be supportable on the surface such as to be moved around on the surface, such as by flicking with a finger, such as to simulate a sportsperson playing a game, for example football.
The sheet-form material may comprise card.
The support component may be disc-shaped.
For a better understanding of the present invention and to show more clearly how it may be carried into effect, is reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of an embodiment of novelty article arrangement according to the invention adapted to be demountable on a bottle having a cap; Figure 2 is a perspective view of a bottle with a removable cap, provided with the arrangement of Figure 1; and 25 Figure 3 is a perspective view of a card-form characterrepresentation and disc-shaped component derived from the arrangement of Figure 1 and supported in a bottle cap removed from the bottle of Figure 2.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a strip I of card material has a portion 2 provided with an aperture 3 which is arranged to encircle a neck 4 of a bottle 5 provided with a cap 6. The bottle may, for example, be a drinks bottle and the cap 6 may be any form of removable cap, such as a crown cap, or a threaded cap, or a snap-on cap.
The strip 1 has a further portion 7A which may be immediately adjacent to the portion 2, or separated therefrom by a still further portion 7B. Although the portions 2, 7A and optional 7B form integral parts of the strip 1 of card material, hinged regions 8 and 9 may be provided, enabling portion 7A to be folded over on top of portion 7B and also allowing the portions 7A and 7B to lie close to the side of the bottle 5 when the portion 2 is accommodated on the neck of the bottle. Portion 2 may also be folded over on top of portion 7B for convenience of packing and transit before fitting to a bottle.
A card-form character-representation 10, such as a representation of a human, animal or cartoon character, is provided in the portion 7A of the strip 1. The character-representation 10 is outlined by perforations or slits 11 through the portion 7A of the strip 1. As a result, the character-representation 10 is able to be separated from the strip 1 by pressing it out of the strip.
The character-representation 10 may, for example, represent a sportsperson, such as a footballer, and may be shown in appropriate club colours. Different sports personalities may be featured on different strips 1.
A tab 12 is provided at the lower end, for example the feet end, of the character-representation 10.
A discshaped component 13 is also provided in the portion 7A of the strip 1 and is outlined by perforations or slits 14 to enable it to be separated from the strip 1 by pressing it out of the strip. The disc-shaped component 13 is provided with a slit 15 which is arranged to receive the tab 12 on the character-representation 10.
The disc-shaped component 13 is dimensioned such that, after separation from the strip 1, it can be securely fitted inside the open end of the cap 6 of the bottle 5, after the cap 6 has been removed from the bottle.
The character-representation 10 is assembled with the disc-shaped component 13 by fitting the tab 12 into the slit 15. As shown in Figure 3, the disc-shaped component 13, with the character-representation 10 assembled therewith, is fitted into the open end of the bottle cap 6 and the character-representation is consequently supported in an upright position by the cap 6. The resulting assembly may be located on any, preferably smooth, surface and may be manually flicked or slid around on the surface, using a finger, such as to simulate the playing of a game, for example football. A plurality of such assemblies may be used to represent a team of players.
The portion 7B of the strip 1 may be used (when provided) to carry advertising logos, slogans, or desired data, messages, or instructions 16.
