Abstract
A releasably secured load carrying roof bar A comprises two supports B which may be individually adjusted by sliding either along the length of the load carrying bar A. Bar A being secured, in position, by securing strap C being passed beneath the roof, above the opened doors, or windows, and into the interior of the vehicle, the ends of the strap being joined together by couplings E. The length of the strap may be adjusted at F.
Description
2357744 MOTOR VEHICLE ROOF BAR LOAD CARRIERS This invention relates to a
detachable motor vehicle roof bar load carrier
A roof bar load carrier is a well known motor vehicle accessory, which, to make it practically functional, is fitted in pairs to the roof of a motor vehicle. Each load carrying roof bar being of equal dimensions, specifications and design features, to the other of the pair. A roof bar load carrier is supported on, and fitted to, the roof of a motor vehicle by various means.
Roof bar load carriers are however, relatively difficult and time consuming to adjust, fit and remove from a motor vehicle. Moreover the setting of any required adjustments, the fitting to, and subsequent removal from a motor vehicle of load carrying roof bars, generally requires a degree of mechanical proficiency, and the possession of certain hand tools.
An object of this invention is to provide a load carrying roof bar which, without the use of any tools, allows for quick and easy adjustments, fitting to, and removal from the roof of a motor vehicle by persons unskilled in mechanical devices.
According to the present invention there is provided a releasably secured load carrying roof bar which is supported at either end thereof upon the vehicle roof by means of two adjustable, sliding supports. The load carrying bar has, extending from either end, and means to retain same, a securing strap, of which affixed to each extremity is a connecting coupling. The load carrying bar, supported by the two aformentioned adjustable, sliding supports is secured in position by the aformentioned securing straps, one fitted with a length adjustor, being passed, either side of the vehicle, beneath the roof, and above the opened doors, to be secured closed one end to the other, in the interior of the vehicle by means of the aformentioned connecting couplings.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Drawing 111 shows a view of the complete load carrying roof bar with the two adjustable, sliding supports B in a position on the load carrying bar A, the securing straps C extending from either end of the load carrying bar A with the connecting couplings E disengaged.

Claims (5)
1. A releasably secured load carrying roof bar which is supported at either end thereof ui ion the vehicle roof by means of two adjustable, sliding supports. The load carrying bar t as, extending from either end, and means to retain same, a securing strap of which affixet to each extremity is a connecting coupling. The load carrying bar, supported by the wo aformentioned adjustable, sliding supports, is secured in position by the aformentio ed securing straps, one fitted with a length adjustor, being passed, either side of the the vehi le, beneath the roof, and above the opened doors, to be secured closed one end to the othei, in the interior of the vehicle by means of the aformentioned connecting couplings.
2. A releasably secured load carrying roof bar as claimed in claim 1. wherein fitn ent adjustments are provided by means of two adjustable, sliding supports. Each of the Wo adjustable, sliding supports being capable of a sliding movement along the length of the 1)ad carrying bar to which they are fitted. This sliding movement facilitates any requ red adjustments for fitment to the varied roof widths of a varied range of vehicles.
3. A releasably secured load carrying roof bar as claimed in claim 1. or claim 2. wherein the load carrying bar, supported on the two adjustable, sliding supports, is secured in position on the roof of the vehicle by means of a securing strap which passes through the hollow centre, and extends either end of the load carrying bar. Each extremity of the securing strap being afixed with a connecting coupling.
4. A releasably secured load carrying roof bar as claimed in claim 2. or claim 3. wherin the securing strap, extending from either end of the hollow load carrying bar is retained in position, either end, by means of a retaining plug. The load carrying bar, supported by the two adjustable, sliding supports, is secured in position on the roof of the vehicle by means of the securing strap. Either end of the securing strap being passed beneath either side of the vehicle roof, above the opened doors, or windows in the instance of a two door vehicle. ach end of the securing strap, one being fitted with a length adjustor, are engaged in the interior of the vehicle, by means of the said connecting couplings.
5. A releasably secured load carrying roof bar substantially described herein with referenco, to the drawing Ill.
