Abstract

A razor comprises a head (12) fixedly mounted on a handle (10) and a blade, or twin blade (14) or triple blade mounted on the head (12). The (or each) blade (14) has a cutting edge extending at an angle other than 90{ (preferably 95{ to 120{) relative to the axis of the handle (10). In this respect the head (12) may be mounted at the relevant angle on the handle (10). In other embodiments the head may be perpendicular to the handle and the (or each) blade may be mounted thereon at the relevant angle, or the (or each) blade may be mounted conventionally but provided with an inclined cutting edge.

Description

2357057 P60855 A RAZOR This invention concerns a razor comprising a head
which is fixedly mounted upon a handle and at least one blade which is mounted on the head.
Conventionally, the head of such a razor has a longitudinal axis which extends perpendicular to a main axis of the handle. The blade or blades are substantially rectangular with a cutting edge along one of the longer edges so that when mounted on the head it also extends substantially perpendicular to the main axis of the handle.
According to the invention, the cutting edge of the blade should extend at an angle other than perpendicular to the main axis of the handle, and preferably at an angle of between 950 and 1200 relative thereto (or conversely between 60' and 85 relative thereto).
It has been f ound that by having the cutting edge of the blade held at such an angle, an exceedingly close shave can be obtained. It is believed that this results from the "scything" action of the cutting edge when held at such an angle, whereby individual bristles are sliced through obliquely, rather than being hacked or chopped in the direction of travel of the handle.
2 Setting the cutting edge of the blade or blades at such an angle, other than 90' relative to the handle axis, can be accomplished in three ways:
(a) by fixing the head at an angle other than 90' relative to the handle axis, or (b) by mounting the blade at an angle relative to the head, or (c) by providing an oblique cutting edge on the blade, which is otherwise mounted conventionally on the head.
Each of these is possible within the scope of the invention.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of a first embodiment of a razor in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a rear view of the same embodiment; Figure 3 is a front view of a second embodiment of a razor in accordance with the invention; Figure 4 is a side view of the second embodiment of Figure 3; and 3 Figure 5 is a front view of a third embodiment.
With reference to Figures 1 and 2, this first embodiment comprises a handle (10), a head (12) and a conventional twin blade (14) mounted on the head (12). The head (12) is f ixed onto a top end of the handle (10), at an angle of 101 1 (or 79' at the other side) relative to a longitudinal axis A of the handle. The top end section of the handle (10) may curve in conventional manner so that the head (12) is offset from a lower section of the handle (10), where it is gripped in use.
The razor is then used in conventional manner with the user gripping the handle (10) and drawing the head (12) and hence the blades (14) over the area to be shaved. A very close shave should result in most areas, depending on the exact direction of the blades in any individual area.
In other versions the exact angle of the head (12) relative to the axis A may vary, so long as it is other than 900. Probably an angle between 95' and 120' would work best. Also a single blade or a triple blade may be employed in just the same manner so long as the head (12) is adapted for receiving /mounting same.
Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of razor comprising a handle (20), a head (22) and a twin blade (24). In this case the head (22), which is of conventional elongate form, is fixedly mounted onto the handle (20) at right angles thereto. In other words the respective longitudinal axes (B, C) of the head (22) and the handle (20) lie substantially at 90' to each other. However, the twin blade (24) is mounted obliquely on the head (22) so that it its cutting edges extend at an inclination to the axis B, and at an angle of 10 1 ' (or 79' at the other side) relative to the axis C of the handle (20).
As illustrated in Figure 4, the top section (26) of the handle (20) is narrower and is curved so that in cross section or side view the head (22) is held at an angle to the handle (20).
Figure 5 shows a third embodiment of razor comprising a handle (30), a head (32) and a twin blade (34). The handle (20) and head (32) are conventional, the head being fixedly mounted with a longitudinal axis D substantially at right angles to that (E) of the handle (30). The blade (34) is provided with a V shaped cutting edge, each flank of the V extending at an angle of about 1010 relative to the axis (E) of the handle (30).
As in the first two embodiments, in this embodiment also, a top section of the handle may be curved. Also in the second and third embodiments, just as in the first, the angle of inclination of the blade cutting edge(s) may vary, and one or three blades may alternatively be employed.
The foregoing is illustrative not limitative and variations in detail are possible within the scope of the invention.
