Abstract
A frame 1,2 of the device is bolted to the end of a conveyor so that it automatically moves to maintain the correct position when harvesting,(fig. 1. (1)). From the frame hang three adjustable chains 3 on either side supporting three soft mats stepwise. The mats are angled so that the crop runs slowly from mat to mat and into container. The slope of mats is adjustable by means of the chains to suit varying crop conditions. The top two mats have side panels 5 to eliminate lateral fallout of the crop on steep gradients but allows the operator to observe the moving crop. The design allows for automatic retraction for road travel.
Description
2356191 POTATO & VEGETABLE CASCADE FALL-BREAKER This invention relates to
a Potato and Vegetable Cascade Fall-Breaker.
During harvesting and processing of potatoes and vegetables the crop may have to fall considerable heights, which can cause damage to the produce. The purpose of this invention is to minin-ise this damage.
This invention differs from present designs by the use of adjustable hanging chains which allow movement of the fall-breaker to avoid damage to the crop, and to machinery and equipment during harvesting.
The accompanying drawing shows the basic design: The frame of the device is bolted to the end of the conveyor in such a way that it automatically moves to maintain the correct working position when harvesting. From the frame hang six chains supporting three rubber mats, step-wise. The mats are angled so that the crop runs slowly from mat to mat, and then into the container or elevator, for example. The slope of mats can be adjusted to suit varying crops and conditions. The top two mats have side panels sufficient to eliminate lateral fall-out of the crop on steep gradients during harvesting, but still allows the operator to observe the movement of the crop.
When used with harvesters, the device can be raised and lowered in and out of containers by means of the harvester elevator. For road travel, the device retracts with the harvester elevator.

Claims (7)
1. The Potato and Vegetable Cascade Fall-Breaker comprised of adjustable hanging chains and soft mat cascades, Emits damage to the crop when being transferred from the harvester to the container, it also limits damage to the machinery.
2 The device as claimed in Claim I limits damage to the crop by allowing it to fall slowly from the harvester to the container by three soft rubber mats.
3. The device as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 where the mats hang from metal chains which can be adjusted to suit varying conditions.
4. The device as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 or Claim 3, with the chains being flexible minimises damage to the harvester and adjacent machinery.
5. Safety of personnel is a major consideration in the design as in preceding claims.
6. The Potato and Vegetable Cascade Fall-Breaker can be used in processing plants.
7. The Potato and Vegetable Cascade Fall-Breaker as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
