Abstract

The rail 2 of a garment hanger is provided with a hollow space 3 into which the hook 1 can be pivoted for storage to avoid entanglement problems. Clips or mouldings 5,6 retain the hook in the open or closed configurations.

Description

2355922 GARMENT HANGER This invention relates to a hanger for suspending

garments from a rail.

Hangers for garments are well known and can comprise a suspension hook of wire, plastic or other material fixed to and suspending a short plastic or other material rail in a horizontal or near horizontal plane.

In use it has been found that many existing designs of garment hangers become entangle with each other when they are being stored, transported or packed in groups without garments.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a garment hanger which can be useful in many circumstances and which can reduce or eliminate tangle between hangers and other objects.

According to the present invention there is provided a mechanism comprising suspension hook and hollow rail into which the hook can be retracted when not in use and held there by clips, mouldings or other devices.

A particular embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Fig. 1. Illustrates general arrangement of the suspension hook I and rail 2 as a garment hanger indicating the hollow section 3 of the rail.

Refeffing to the drawings the garment hanger comprises a suspension hook I connected at a swivel 7 in a well known manner within a rail 2 which has a hollow section 3 to accept the suspension hook I when folded down into the position shown at fig.2.

The internal surfaces of the hollow section 3 of the rail 2 may be profiled in a manner to allow easy movement of the suspension hook I from the open position as at Fig. I for use as a garment hanger or similar, to a closed position as at Fig.2 with the suspension hook I contained within the hollow section 3 of the rail 2.

There may be provided clips mouldings or other arrangements or mechanisms 5 and 6 to hold the suspension hook I in either the open position as in Fig. I or closed position as in Fig.2 position.

In use to provide a garment hanger in the well known configuration, the suspension hook I is raised as in Fig. I and held the by mouldings, mechanisms or devices.

In order to provide easy tangle free storage when the hanger is not in use the suspension hook I is pivoted at 7 and folded down into the hollow section 3 of the body of the rail 2 and held there by mouldings, mechanisms or devices.

Suitable profiles and guides within the rail 2 can be provided to aid the retraction of the suspension hook 1.

The suspension hook I can be arranged in any orientation.

Claims

1. A garment hanger having a hollow portion within the rail body to accept the suspension hook when folded or retracted into that body.

2. A garment hanger substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
