Abstract

A personal back-massaging device has a base-plate (4) preferably lined with rubber (5) on its under surface to keep it stationary when it is situated on the floor and bodyweight is placed upon it. There are one or more solid cylindrical sections standing vertically upon the base-plate and preferably glued to it. Each is suitably covered with a rubber ferrule (1) and there is a section of foam (2) inside to further buffer the vertical section. In an alternative model a handle is substituted for the baseplate for use by hand on certain muscle groups.

Description

2355663 A Personal Back-Massaging Device.
Back massaging devices for personal use are familiar products, most involving the principle of rolling to produce a massaging movement. This limits their therapeutic effect. They are often made of wood which can be very painful when bodyweight is placed upon the device and may be ineffective if dependent upon arm-strength to appl\ the pressure.
According to the present invention there is provided a personal massaging device which, when used appropriately, can mimmick both the static and the sliding, deeppressure soft-tissue techniques used by professional massage therapists.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig.1 shows in perspective the back massaging device in the correct position for use.
Fig.2 shows an exploded diagram of the device illustrating its various components.
Referring to the drawing fig.2,the device comprises a base-plate(4)to the undersurface of which is affixed a non-slip material(5).
On top of the base-plate,in its middle,is affixed a vertical, solid cylindrical section(3).On the top of this is positioned a section of pressure-absorbing material(2).
Over the vertical section and pressure-absorbing material fits a cushioning cap(Il',.

2.A personal back-massaging device as in claim 1,wherein the base-plate is provided with a non-slip surfacing material on its underside.
3.A personal back-massaging device as in claim 1 or 2,wherein the vertical projection is provided with a pressure-absorbing covering.
4.A personal back-massaging device as in claim 3,wherein a cushioning material is positioned between the end of the vertical projection and its pressure-absorbing covering.
5.A personal back-massaging device as in claim 4,wherein a handle is substituted for the base-plate.
