Abstract

A unit of sound and/or thermal insulation is disclosed having an enclosed volume in which at least some of its gaseous content has been evacuated. The interior of the insulation may be substantially spherical, and the eternal shape of the insulation may be another shape. The insulating units are preferably constructed of gas impermeable material. An insulating material is also claimed, comprising a plurality of said evacuated insulation units.

Description

1 2354571 SPHERICAL INSULATION This invention creates thermal insulation
and sound insulation, individually or combined.
Most (if not all) insulation methods are imperfect. This applies to thermal and sound insulation. This method draws on one of the most effective ways of achieving the best insulation.
This method is the instigation of the VACUUM in the insulation material. A quantity (more than one) of hollow spheres form the basic insulating material. The internals of these spheres are vacuumed or partially vacuumed or have reduced gas pressure (as compared with the local external gas pressure), They are of ANY size, and are made of ANY gas- proof (or near gas-proof) material. These hollow spheres are made from material(s) that will depend on the insulation application. For instance, if this method is used to reduce or eliminate sound from a hot engine, it would be advisable to use some ceramic material to contain the vacuums without heat damage to the insulation. The vacuum or lowered gas pressure is introduced during or after the sphere creation process.
K;gles 1) Refrigerators - with appropriate thermal insulation, virtually NO warmth would permeate into the refrigerator, resulting in LARGE electricity saving.
2) Fastened around the engine of a CAR or AIRCRAFT, would greatly reduce irritating or harmful noise from these machines.

Claims (4)

1) One spherical insulation item has an enclosed volume in which all or most or some of its gaseous content has been removed. The insulation refered to means SOUND insulation or THERMAL insulation or both SOUND & THERMAL insulation combined.
2) Each item in Claim I has a spherical (or near spherical) interior volume, which has its gas removed as described in Claim 1.
3) The external shape of the item described in Claim I & Claim 2 may also be spherical, but can be any other shape (for example, cubic).
4) The insulating material will be composed of a quantity (greater than 1) of the item described in Claim I & Claim2 & Claim 3. The construction material of these items will be composed of gas impermeable (or near gas impermeable) material.
