Thrashing-machines.-In a combined reaping and thrashing machine the thrashing machine 40 mounted on the stubbleward side of the machine is supported by transverse beams 41, and has a thrashing cylinder 42 with an axle formed by an extension of the shaft 10. The straw is thrown from the concave 43 by a beater 48 on to a shaking conveyer 49 comprising bars 51 carried by chains 50 and engaged by strikers 58. The straw is discharged on to the ground while the grain falls through the conveyer into a casing 63 along which it is carried by a helical conveyer 64 to a similar transverse conveyer 80 that carries it across the machine to an endless elevator 91 discharging on to a screen 87 in a cleaner 85. The cleaner is pivoted on the axis of the shaft of its fan 86 and may be adjusted by a bell crank 115 about this axis to suit the slope of the ground being traversed. The fan is carried in pedestals 114 rising from the tractor frame and directs a blast on to screen 87 thus removing the dust and chaff. The cleaned seed is delivered from the last screen to a spout 89 by an elevator 88. Imperfectly thrashed grain is drawn from the cleaner by a suction fan 106, and delivered through a conduit 107 to the thrashing machine again. Small seeds passing through the screen are caught in a receptacle 108.
