Abstract

The security locking device has a rotating centre pin 10 which fits through an anchor plate 9 and fixes to the ground with bolts 8. An anchor plate bolt cover 7 fits over the rotating centre pin 10 and covers the bolt heads 8. A circlip 6 secures the anchor plate bolt cover 7. A chain unit consists of a large chain 2 with a large chain washer 5 attached to one end and a main lock housing 3 to the opposite end. The large chain washer 5 passes through the frame of a motor cycle, caravan or trailer etc. and over the rotating centre pin 10. The main lock housing 3 slides over the rotating centre pin 10 and locks into position (Fig 2) by means of cylinder lock 1. The chain unit can also be used with a separate rotating centre pin (Fig 3, 10) as a portable locking device without the ground anchor 9.

Description

2354282 Security Locking- Device This invention concerns a robust
multi-purpose locking device designed for securing motor cycles, caravans, trailers and various other moveable items.
Such a device is usually intended for securing motor cycles and consists of an anchor plate, which is bolted to the ground. A security chain is threaded through an eye which protrudes from the anchor plate and is then passed through the spokes of a motor cycle wheel. The chain is secured with some separate form of padlock thus preventing the motor cycle from being uplifted or ridden away. For portable use the anchor plate is not used. A chain is simply passed through the spokes of the motor cycle wheel and again it is secured with a separate form of padlock. This helps to prevent the motor cycle from being ridden or pushed away. However each component is readily accessible to potential thieves and may easily be attacked by the use of bolt croppers, hacksaws and other such implements.
According to this invention each component builds up to form a single unit. Each component is allowed to rotate freely, thus providing a formidable security device making any form of attack particularly difficult due to the cylindrical rotating design.
A main anchor plate and a single rotating centre pin are bolted to the ground. A cover plate fits over the rotating centre pin and completely covers the securing bolts making them totally inaccessible when the device is in use. A circlip is fitted over the rotating centre pin and fits on top of the bolt cover. The circlip locates into a groove which is machined into the rotating centre pin. This prevents the bolt cover from being removed when the device is not in use, thus eliminating access to the bolts.
The actual locking device consists of a heavy-duty chain with a large washer attached at one end and the main lock housing attached to the opposite end.
The large washer and main lock housing are drilled allowing sectioned links at either end of the chain to be welded into the holes, securely linking the two components together.
The large washer fits over the rotating centre pin followed by the main lock housing which is then secured by means of a cylinder lock. The position of the lock barrel is machined eccentric into the main lock housing which allows each component to rotate concentric around the anchor plate and rotating centre pin. The device can also be partially dismantled and used without the anchor plate for portable use.
Each component is nickel plated and constructed from hardened steel. The chain is constructed of high security square links which are made from nickel plated chrome molybdenum alloy steel. The chain is covered with a form of protective sleeve, thus preventing any damage to the item being secured.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - FIGURE 1 shows a cross-sectioned diagram of the individual components stacked prior to assembly.
FIGURE 2 shows a cross sectioned diagram of the assembled unit.
FIGURE 3 shows a cross sectioned diagram of the individual components required for portable use.
Referring to Figure 1, the anchor plate 9 fits over the rotating centre pin 10 and is secured to the ground using four high tensile steel rawl bolts 8 thus providing a solid anchor point.
The anchor plate bolt cover 7 then fits over the rotating centre pin 10 completely covering the rawl bolts 8 making them totally inaccessible when the device is in use.
The circlip 6 is fitted over the rotating centre pin 10 and is located on top of the anchor plate bolt cover 7, it is situated in a groove which is machined into the rotating centre pin 10.
One end of the high security square link chain 2 is welded into holes which are drilled into the large chain washer 5.
The opposite end of the chain 2 is welded into holes which are drilled into the main lock housing 3. This provides solid, resilient joints.
The large chain washer 5 fits over the rotating centre pin 10 and sits on top of the anchor plate bolt cover 7. This is followed by the main lock housing 3, which is secured around the rotating centre pin 10 by means of a high security cylinder lock 1.
The cylinder lock 1 is fixed into the main lock housing 3 by means of a retaining bolt 4 which prevents the lock 1 being pulled out of the main lock housing 3.
When the device is fully assembled and in use the rotating centre pin 10 is free to rotate inside the anchor plate 9.
The anchor plate bolt cover 7, the large chain washer 5 and the main lock housing 3 are all free to rotate around the rotating centre pin 10. This design feature makes any attempt at cutting or forcibly removing the locking device extremely difficult.
The device can be secured to a garage floor, driveway or any other hard standing surface. The motor cycle is positioned with one of it's wheels near to the anchor plate 9, the large chain washer 5 is passed around the motor cycle wheel through the spokes and on to the rotating centre pin 10.
The main lock housing 3 is placed over the rotating centre pin 10 and automatically locks into position by means of the high security cylinder lock 1, thus securing the motor cycle or other moveable items preventing it from being uplifted or taken away.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the locking device when assembled into the single unit.
For use with caravans, trailers and other moveable items the large chain washer 5 and the high security square link chain 2 are passed through a suitable part of the structure such as a tow hitch handle, frame or chassis thus securing the relevant item.
When the locking device is partially dismantled for portable use the components required comprise of the high security square link chain, with the large washer attached to one end and the main lock housing attached to the opposite end. Because the rotating centre pin is secured to the ground by means of the anchor plate and rawl bolts, an additional separate rotating centre pin is used for convenience.
Referring to Figure 3, the large chain washer 5 which is connected to the high security square link chain 2 is passed through the spokes and around the motor cycle wheel. The large chain washer 5 fits over the separate rotating centre pin 10. The main lock housing 3 which is connected to the opposite end of the high security square link chain 2 then fits over the separate rotating centre pin 10. The main lock housing 3 automatically locks into position by means of the high security cylinder lock 1 thus preventing the motor cycle or other moveable item from pushed or taken away.
