Abstract

A liquid-phase sintering aid incorporating Cu<SB>2</SB>O and PbO is provided which demonstrates a reduction in the required sintering temperature and sintering time of ceramics. In the case of ferroelectric ceramics based on a lead zirconate-lead titanate (PZT) solid solution, sintered densities comparable to those obtained by conventional sintering at 1260{C for 3 hours are achieved at a low temperature of only 850{C, while sintering time is reduced to 45mins using a 5 weight percentage loading of sintering aid.
