Abstract
235,234. Grupe, W. F. June 9, 1924, [Convention date]. Moulding cork.-In calendering and pressing machines in which the rolls or pressure plate are intended to operate when heated by internally-applied heat, the rolls or pressure plate are surfaced with a padding made from substantially flat cork particles which are moulded under pressure and heat in excess of the working pressure and temperature of the finished articles, the natural resin of the cork causing the particles to be interbonded with one another. The particles are arranged to be substantially parallel to one another in planes at right angles to the axis of the roller or at right angles to the working surface of the bed. As shown, the cover 14, Fig. 3, for a roller 10 is moulded in one or more longitudinal parts, having internal ribs 15 entering grooves 16 in the roller, intervening air spaces 17 being provided. In a modification, the cover is corrugated internally and grooved externally. The cover may be a plain sleeve having a slot for a keyway. The cork particles are fed between the sections of a. two-part mould by a tamping tool. The filled mould is then raised to a sufficiently high temperature to cause the exudation of the natural resin which, on cooling, serves as a binding-medium. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the addition of resins of higher melting point than cork resin to the cork particles. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
