Abstract

An indicator for a motor vehicle to inform other motorists whether the vehicle is accelerating, coasting or braking using different coloured warning lamps for each state. A set of green lights 10 is used to indicate when the vehicle is accelerating, a set of amber lights 9 is used to indicate when the vehicle is coasting and a set of red lights 8 is used to indicate braking. There is a delay circuit 7 to delay the changing between each signal.

Description

2352345 Safety Warning LOLs This invention relates to different coloured
warning lights on the rear of a vehicle, and includes micro switches, relay switch, and a delay circuit.
High rear red brake warning lights are well known, but this invention also includes amber and green lights.
Rear red brake lights only give a warning when the vehicle is actually braking. This invention gives information to drivers in vehicles to the rear of the car that the car is slowing down, accelerating or braking. The invention consists of two switches mounted to the car structure in such a position as to operate when the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are pressed and released.
A relay is incorporated in the electrical circuit to determine which set of lights are illuminated. A delay circuit is installed to incorporate a delay in the switching on/off of the amber lights. Three different sets of coloured lights are displayed at the rear of the car. ie. red amber green. The sets of lights can be made up in various configurations.
The existing brake light switch can be modified to incorporate this circuit, or this circuit can operate the brake light independantly. If the vehicle is fitted with a handbrake warning light, this could be fitted into the circuit if desired.
A vacuum switch could be used in place of one of the micro switches.
2 Referring to the drawing of the electrical circuit; The battery I supplies the source of electrical current which travels through the ignition switch 2, fuse 3, to switch 4. If the brake pedal is pressed switch 4 directs the current to the set of red lights 8 warning the car is braking.
If the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are released the current passes through the relay 5 to the set of amber lights 9, warning the car is slowing down, but not braking.
If the accelerator pedal is pressed the current passes through the relay 5 to the set of green lights 10, warning that the car is accelerating.
Switch 6 directs the circuit to earth, or the delay circuit 7.
The delay circuit 7 gives a period of time before earthing the circuit.
