Abstract

A hair clip for holding several hair strands simultaneously has a plurality of fingers which are biassed closed (Fig 1) by a tension spring passing through holes 13 in the inner fingers and joined to the outer fingers. Each finger has a semicircular projection 16 engaging a corresponding recess (17, Fig 4) which holds the fingers assembled and allows them to pivot relative to each other.

Description

1 2351231 MULTI-FINGERED HAIR CLIP This invention Relates to hair dressing
and hair fashion.
Hair Grips and clips are available in many different forms, ranging from a simple piece of shaped spring wire bent double, to clips consisting of two parts held closed by spring action, and when placed in the hair are designed to hold the hair in a certain configuration. The design of this clip resulted from a desire to hold not. one, but many separate strands of hair over a wider distance across the head than is possible with normal clips, and to encourage the hair to stand away from the head before falling down naturally.
According to the present invention, there is provided a Multi-fingered hair clip that consists of a number of single fingers that can be linked together side by side, using a key and slot arrangement to form a multiple fingered clip. The fingers are held together by a tension spring which is anchored at either end to the outside fingers and runs through adjacent holes in the intermediate fingers. The overall shape of each finger is designed such that the under surface of the assembled clip accords to a section of the outside surface of a sphere approximating the dimensions of an adult human cranium.
A specific embodiment will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1. Shows the clip in perspective with the fingers in a closed position.
Figure 2. Shows the clip in perspective with the fingers in the open position.
Figure 3 Shows an individual finger in perspective on the key side.
Figure 4 Shows and individual finger in perspective on the slot side Figure 5. Shows and individual finger in plan view from the top Referring to the drawing, the assembled clip (figs land 2) comprises a left outside finger 10 a number of intermediate fingers 11 and a right outside finger 12, held in the closed position by spring action.
The individual fingers are assembled by pushing the key 16 of one finger into the slot 17 of another ensuring that the tips of each finger are adjacent to each other.
Each finger is designed such that the widest part of the finger when looking down as in fig 5 coincides with the centre line of the key and slot, thus each finger is free to rotate about this pivot point 18.
The fingers are opened as shown in fig 2 by squeezing together the finger handles 14 and 15 and the will close under the action of a spring.

Claims (9)

1. A hair clip comprising a number of individual fingers the tips of the which will open relative to each other, and when closed will grip firmly.
2. A hair clip as claimed in claims 1 wherein a semi circular key is provided on the side of the finger that will assist in preventing movement in certain directions of the fingers relative to each other.
3. A hair clip as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein a slot is provided on the side of the finger that will assist in preventing movement in certain directions of the fingers relative to each other.
4. A hair clip as claimed in claims 1, 2 and 3 in which the fingers when assembled will neither rotate nor slide in any direction relative to each other.
5. A hair clip as claimed in claim 1 in which a tension spring is anchored to each outside finger
6. A hair clip as claimed in claims 1 and 5 in which a tension spring passes through each intermediate finger
7. A hair clip as claimed in claims 1, 5 and 6 wherein a tension spring causes the fingers to close and grip firmly whatever is between the fingers.
8. A hair clip as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the lower surface of the assembled clip will conform to the surface of a sphere of dimensions approximating the size of a human cranium.
9. A multi fingered hair clip substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1- 5 of the accompanying drawing.
