Abstract

A driver reminder to periodically and/or at critical tines remind the driver what side of the road he/she should be driving on. The driver reminder incorporates an audible reminder in the form of a buzzer/bleeper, a spoken reminder in a language to suit the user and a visual reminder in the form of an illuminated arrow and text. The device dependent on the settings programmed will operate:-when entering the vehicle, when starting the vehicle, when using any of the vehicle electrics such as indicators and lights, when the vehicle is accelerated or decelerated and when there is a change in direction of the vehicle. The driver reminder can also be set to operate at timed intervals to allow for the fact that on some journeys such as on motorways the sensors may not operate that often.

Description

2350463 DRIVER REMINDER The invention is a device to periodically and/or
at critical times remind the driver what side of the road helshe should be driving on.
Many accidents have been caused by motorists, driving on the wrong side of the road when driving in countries that drive on the opposite side to that of the motorists native country, Accidents have also occured due to motorists, driving on the wrong side of the road on return to their native country.
From research I have found that people who drive on the continent as well as in Britain have no problem once they become familiar with driving on the opposite side of the road to that which they normally drive on after a period of familiarisation, but that there are occasions notably when they leave and rejoin the highway, especially when there are no other moving vehicles present that they forget which side they should be driving on.
The invention is electronic and can be powered by the vehicle power supply or from Its own battery.
The invention incorporates an audible reminder in the form of a buzzer/bleeper, a spoken reminder in a language to suit the user and a visual reminder in the form of an illuminated arrow and text.
The visual and spoken reminders can be reversed by the driver to allow for driving on different sides of the road.
Any combination of the three reminders can be selected by the driver.
The volume of the audible reminder in the form of a buzzer/bleeper and the spoken reminder can be adjusted by the driver.
The audible reminder in the form of a buzzer/bleeper, the visual reminder and the spoken reminder are activated by a timer which has a variable control.
The audible reminder in the form of a buzzer, the visual reminder and the spoken reminder are activated by sensors which detect motion, acceleration, deceleration and centrifugal forces.
The audible reminder in the form of a buzzer/bleeper, the visual reminder and the spoken reminder are activated by sensors which detect the use of the vehicle electrics.
2 The visual reminder has adjustable brightness and can be set to flashing mode.
Any combination of sensors and or timer can be selected, The sensitivity of the sensors can be adjusted by the driver.
The timer can be adjusted by the driver.
Any combination of reminder, sensor and or timer can be selected by the driver.
The driver reminder can be either self contained or integrated Into the vehicle.
The driver reminder Is fitted in the vehicle so that the visual display is easily seen by the driver.
The driver reminder Is connected to the vehicle electrics in order for the sensors that detect the use of the vehicle electrics to work.
The device when on and dependent on the settings programmed will operate:when entering the vehicle, when starting the vehicle, when using any of the vehicle electrics such as indicators and lights, when the vehicle is accelerated or decelerated and when there is a change in direction of the vehicle.
The driver reminder can also be set to operate at timed intervals to allow for the fact that on some Journeys such as on motorways the sensors may not operate that often.
