Abstract

A handbag comprises an outer shell (A) which is devoid of interior compartments or zipped pockets and an inner bag (B) which is plain externally with no handles, but has a centre zipped compartment and a zipped pocket. Strips of Velcro (RTM) approximately two inches (5.08 cm) below the top of the inside of each long side of the shell (A) cooperate with similar strips approximately one inch (2.54 cm) below the top of the long sides of the inner bag (B) to secure the inner bag (B) within the shell (A). A space below the bottom of the inner bag (B) provides a hidden compartment. The inner bag (B) may be switched from handbag to handbag without disturbing the contents.

Description

1 2350285 CONWNT HANDBAG This invention relates to a handbag with an inner
bag and an interchangeable exterior.
One of today's main accessories is a handbag. These are available in many shapes and sizes, along with a choice of many colours to co-ordinate with the outfit being worn. Naturally, when changing outfits we also need to change our handbag. As it is customary to carry a purse, cheque book, credit cards, cosmetics, address book and similar items in a handbag and generally only have one each of these, we would want to transfer the entire contents of a handbag to the next handbag being used. For example, you are ready to go out in a navy outfit complete with navy handbag. For whatever reason you find you need to change to a brown outfit, but a navy bag does not go with a brown suit. My invention allows a changeover in seconds and nothing will be inadvertently left behind as everything is transferred Iock, stock and barrer'.
This invention is a handbag with an inner removable bag. The handbag (Ref. A) is an outer "shelr'.
The removable inner bag fl. B) will fit into a range of handbag "shelle' of different styles, shapes f. and colours by use of Velm, Ref. D) and is thus totally interchangeable.
The handbag A does not contain any pockets or zipped compartments. The inner bag B is of strong construction and designed to have a zipped pocket and a centre zipped compartment (Ref. C) as normally found in a handbag and has the means to be secured to the inside of handbag A- The handbag "shelle' A would be of differing designs, i.e. shapes, position and length of handles, textures, and colours, much the same as any range of handbags, except that they will all accommodate the same inner bag. There will be two sizes, small and large. Once an inner bag of the desired size has been purchased, any amount of handbag "shells' can be purchased to complement your wardrobe.
Another feature of this convenient handbag is that when the inner bag B is placed in the handbag A, it will fall short (app 2") of the bottom, thus giving you a secret compartment (Ref. E) for wallets etc, giving added security against pickpockets.
The principle of this invention will now be explained by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
(LTM) Figure 1 shows the handbag A including position of VelcrolStrips D.
Figure 2 show construction of the inner bag B complete with zipped compartments C including 10W position of V280, trips D.
Figure 3 shows the positioning of B into A.
Figure 4 shows the inner bag B secured inside one of the handbags A.
2 Referring to the examples in Fig 1, the handbag A is merely an empty "shell" with no zipped compartments or pockets. It can be made from any material, i.e. leather, straw, plastic, linen, etc. The handles can be placed anywhere, i.e. at the side, on the front and back etc and the handbag A can be closed by any of the accepted designs currently available, i.e. zipped, press stud closing, turning clasp etc. The shape of the bag can vary, it can be circular, square etc. In fact the only limitation on the handbag A is that it is wide enough and deep enough to accommodate the inner bag B. A strip or v eiroi D, is affixed to each of the long sides on the inside of the handbag A, approximately two inches below the top.
Referring to Fig 2, the inner bag B is of strong construction, made ther strong linen, cotton or satinised cotton, with zipped pockets and compartments. A strip of VIS, D, is affixed to the outside of the inner bag B on each of the long sides approximately one inch below t e top.
(krpt) As seen in Fig 3, simply place the inner bag B inside the handbag A, the Velcrotstrips are lined up and firmly secured and B is therefore "suspended" inside A (Fig 4). This produces a gap between the bottom of A and the bottom of B which could be used as a security compartment when out shopping etc.
Removal of B is a simple reversal of the procedure in Fig 3 after which it can be placed in any other handbag A in the range.
However, the biggest appeal of this new style o " f bag is the convenience of swapping handbags in seconds. As every woman knows, it is a nuisance to have to move all the contents of one handbag to another and certain items can be left out.
There will be two sizes, large and small. Each size will have a corresponding inner bag B to fit the handbag A.

Claims (1)

  1. I claim the invention of an interchangeable handbag comprising an outer handbag "shell" with nothing inside other than internal fastenings to accommodate an inner bag. The exterior of the inner bag has matching fastenings and is able to be secured inside the handbag "shell". The design also provides a hidden compartment for security purposes.
There will be a range of outer handbags and the inner bag will fit them all, thus the inner bag is transferred in its entirety with all its contents and is fully interchangeable between all the handbags in the range.
