Description
(54) HAND-BAG
(71) I, ARIANE EGENTER of 137 route d'Aire, Geneva, Switzerland, a Swiss citizen, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- It is known that hand-bags are objects, the aesthetic appearance of which is generally matched to the outfit worn by the owner.
Thus, when changing one's outfit, it is often necessary to remove all the objects from one hand-bag and transfer them to another hand
bag, which is a relatively time-consuming operation, particularly since the inside disposition of one bag does not generally correspond to that of another and accordingly the arrangement of objects must be consequently modified.
It is an object of the present invention to simplify this transfer operation.
According to the present invention there is provided a hand-bag comprising two relatively separable parts, one of these parts comprising an outer cover and the other part constituted by a removable inner bag portion, in which the cover is provided with a carrying strap, each end of this strap being connected to one part of a coupling means, the other part of which is carried by the removable inner bag portion.
The present invention will be further illustrated, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an outer cover of a hand-bag in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a removable inner bag portion of a hand-bag in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 3 is a side view, partly in section of a part of the outer cover, the coupling means, and a part of the removable inner bag portion; and
Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the removable inner bag portion.
The hand-bag comprises two relatively
separable parts. One of these parts constitutes
an outer cover 1, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
This cover comprises the usual outside members of a hand-bag, more particularly two main front and rear walls, a base and two lateral walls 2 presenting folds forming gus- sets 3 to permit an increase in the inside volume of the hand-bag, when necessary.
One of the main walls, as shown the rear wall, is integral with a cover member 4 provided with one part 5 of a closure mechanism which part 5 is adapted to co-operate with another part 6 of the closure mechanism, part 6 being provided on the other main wall, as shown the front wall. The two lateral walls 2 are provided with hooking means for a carrying strap 7.
The second part of the hand-bag constituting the removable inner bag portion, is illustrated in Figl 2. The removable inner bag portion 8 comprises a base, two main front and rear walls and two lateral gussetted wall 9 and 10. At their upper parts, the lateral walls 9 and 10 carry a part 11 of a coupling means which is represented in section in Fig.
3. The part 11 of this coupling means is provided with two fixing flaps 12 for fixing to the flaps 12 for fixing to the lateral walls 9 and 10 of the inner bag portion, these flaps being bent back and hidden by the lining 13 of the removable inner bag portion.
The part 11 is of a generally hollow parallelepiped form, the surface facing the outside of which presents a parallel sided slot 14.
The fixing means of the strap 7 are constituted by a pivot 15 having a head portion 16 at its outer end and the inner end of which is integral with a collar 17 having a throat 18.
The strap 7 carries at its end an eyelet 19 freely turning on the pivot 15.
The removable inner bag portion 8 can thus be coupled to the cover 1 simply by sliding it into the cover 1 by engaging the edges of the slot 14 in the throat 18 of the collar 17. In this manner, when the bag is carried by the strap 7, the weight is transmitted from the inner bag to the strap by the coupling device, and the cover 1 of the bag is virtually unaffected by the weight of the objects contained in the inner bag portion.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the inner bag portion comprises, on its two main walls, a series of pockets disposed on their outer and inner surfaces. Fig. 4 shows that the pockets 20 situated outside are disposed at a height which is different to that of the pockets situated on the inner surface, in order to permit the arrangement of large number of objects whilst maintaining them evenly distributed in the disposable volume.
Finally, the inner removable bag portion 8 may also be provided with a pocket 22 which is disposed longitudinally in the bag, parallel to its main sides. This pocket 22 does not extend to the base 23 of the inner bag, thereby leaving the base region of the inner removable bag portion 8 free to receive small objects such as scarves, gloves, etc.
The removable inner bag portion 8 is also provided with a hook 24 on one of its main surfaces, which hook 24 can serve for the attachment of a bunch of keys.
It is clear that the arrangement described has many advantages, particularly since it permits the use of several coloured covers and/ or of different qualities with a single inside removable bag portion, which arrangement is less expensive than a number of complete bags corresponding to the number of outfits possessed by the owner. Moreover, if it is desired, the inner bag can be removed and be placed, for example, in a suitcase or in a provision bag, these latter also being able to be provided with a coupling part of the same type as the collar 17.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:- 1. A hand-bag comprising two relatively separable parts, one of these parts comprising an outer cover and the other part constituted by a removable inner bag portion, in which the cover is provided with a carrying strap, each end of this strap being connected to one part of a coupling means, the other part of which is carried by the removable inner bag portion.
2. A hand-bag in accordance with claim 1, in which the removable bag portion comprises a rectangular base and four lateral walls, the two lateral walls arranged along the long sides of the base, being provided with pockets on each of their surfaces.
3. A hand-bag in accordance with claim 2, in which on each wall, the pockets of one surface are disposed at a different height to that of the pockets of the other surface.
4. A hand-bag in accordance with claim 3, in which the strap is provided at each of its ends with an eyelet pivoted on the outer side of a head passing through a wall of the cover, the inner part of this head constituting one of the said parts of the coupling means.
5. A hand-bag in accordance with claim 3, in which the inner removable bag portion is provided with another pocket and disposed longitudinally in the bag parallel to its main sides, the bottom of this pocket being spaced from the base of the outer cover to provide a space for receiving small objects.
6. A hand-bag in accordance with claim 1, in which the removable inner bag portion is provided with a hook provided to retain a bunch of keys.
7. A hand-bag substantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
