Abstract

A rectangular building block, preferably wooden, has a number of wooden pegs/dowels projecting from the lower surface that engage with respective holes on the upper surface of a block in a lower layer. The wooden pegs can be temporarily attached to the block or made permanent with adhesive. The blocks may be used to form a wall and can be cut at an angle to alter the direction of the wall (fig2, not shown). The end blocks of a structure formed therefrom can be rebated for attachment to a rebated post, possibly by using a screw. The blocks and post may be treated with a preservative.

Description

2350129 UNIVERSAL GARDEN BLOCKS The invention relates to a 3 dimensional
rectangular block which incorporates small round pegs which locate into holes as an easy means of fastening.
The blocks are designed for easy assembly and can be assembled as a temporary structure and dismantled to be reassembled elsewhere, or with the addition of an adhesive can be assembled as a permanent structure. The blocks are for external use in gardens/patios and are used to build retainer walls, small sheds and planters.
The blocks are of various sizes with small round pegs fixed permanently into the bottom of each block. These pegs lock the blocks into position and prevent them from moving. Each block has holes slightly larger than the diameter of the pegs drilled into the top of the block into which the pegs of other blocks will fit. End blocks feature a rebate which fit into rebated posts and are fastened by means of a screw. These posts are fastened to existing walls or driven into the ground. Some blocks are cut at angles thus allowing the line of the blocks to be altered.
Preferably the blocks and posts are made from wood, and as a permanent fixture a suitable wood adhesive is applied to the pegs before being inserted into the recipient holes. All blocks are treated with a wood preservative.
A more detailed account of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig. 1 Shows a front view of the different sized blocks complete with top v3-ew and sectional view of a small block, and where the pegs are inserted using an adhesive.
Fig. 2 Shows a top view of the different angles of the corner blocks, which allows the line in which the blocks are laid to be altered.
Fig. 3 Shows a top view of the rebate in a small end block which fits into the rebate of the end post.
Fig. 4 Shows how the blocks fit together.
Fig. 5 Shows the rebated end post into which the rebated C' end blocks and a three dimensional drawing of a number of blocks fitted together.
As shown in Fig. 1 the blocks vary in size and are chamf ered-on all edges to give a more decorative appearance when assembled. They are of d f ferent sizes to allow the blocks, to be assembled more quickly.
2.
Fig. 1 also shows a cross section of where the holes are drilled, the distance between each hole is exactly half the distance of the total length of the block, thus allowing all holes and pegs to line up exactly. Fig. 1 also shows how the pegs are permanantly inserted us-Ing an adhesive.
Different angle/size blocks allow the line in which the blocks are laid to be altered see f ig. 2.
End blocks are rebated see fig. 3. This rebate can also be featured in the larger blocks. This rebate enables the retainer wall to be fixed to a stable point, in this case a rebated post, the rebated blocks are then fastened to the post fig. 5 by means of a screw, at this point adhesive can also be added for a permanent assembly.
The blocks can be laid in a line, one row on top of another row, they must be staggered see fig. 4 so when the pegs are located into the correct holes each block will be secured into place. The end blocks which are rebated see fig. 3 are always used at the start and end of each row which enables them to be secured to the rebated posts by means of screws.
