Abstract

An antistatic screen cleaner is in the form of a three dimensional figure which can be animal, human, allegorical or imaginary and comprises an outer container of a fur like material which has been treated with an antistatic agent, an inner volume of variable shape defined by the outer container, and pellet like material partially or substantially filling the inner volume to provide bulk and maintain the three dimensional form. The pellet material may be a plastics material. The filling preferably allows some deformation of the character which is preferably a fox. The outer container preferably has regions of differing colour.

Description

2349807 SCREEN CLEANER This invention relates to a screen cleaner. It is
particularly, though not exclusively, intended for cleaning a screen of a visual display unit ('VDU') of a computer but it can also be used for the screens of television sets or a glass panel which needs to be kept clean.
A VDU needs to be kept clean to ensure optimal reading of the displayed material. However with a working location necessarily involving the close adjacency of a user for extended periods and the existence of electrostatic build up there is a tendency for a screen to have matter either in discrete amounts or as a layer deposited on the screen. Aerosol sprays can be directed onto, or a moistened cloth can be wiped over the screen which can subsequently be polished with a further tissue or cloth. Such treatment provides for a cleaning action and also for the neutralisation of electrostatic effects. Such treatment necessarily involves the provision of aerosol and/or liquid materials and a cloth or tissue for use with them. Such items necessarily involve a cost in relation to purchase, storage, distribution and storage and can be subject to theft. In addition the excessive use of dispensed airborne materials can be objectionable to those suffering from breathing ailments.
According to the present invention there is provided a screen cleaner in the form of a body member in the form of three dimensional character representing a figure comprising: a flexible outer container of a fur like material serving in appearance to define a figure whether human, animal, allegorical or imaginary or a combination of two or more such figures; an inner volume of variable shape defined by the outer container; pellet like material (typically of plastics material) partially or substantially filling the inner volume to provide bulk to the maintain the container in a substantially three dimensional form; and an anti- static material deposited on the outside of the container.
2 An exemplary embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing including a screen cleaner of which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cleaner when not in use; and Figure 2 shows the cleaner of Figure 1 in use.
The screen cleaner 11 is variously shown in relation to a VDU 12 of a desk top computer 13. The cleaner 11 is made up of an outer container 14 representing a fox.
The container 14 is of a plastic fur like material different regions of the cleaner 11 being made from fur like material of different colours.
The container 14 is substantially filled with pellets of a plastic material to the extent that the filling gives some bulk to the cleaner 11 without causing the cleaner to resist any deformation. In this partly collapsed condition the cleaner l l' is readily handled in use and conforms readily to any surface over which it is drawn so enhancing its contact and cleaning ability.
To enhance the cleaning properties of the cleaner the outer surface of the container during manufacture is sprayed with a long lasting deposit of anti-static material.
The screen cleaner 11 provides an attractive, efficient and radily used cleaner which is readily maintained accessible. The cleaner 11 does not require the added use of any other material whether spray or liquid to function efficiently. If necessary a further deposit of long lasting antistatic material can be carried out at extended intervals.
