Abstract

A buffer body 2 is installed within the casing 11 and near the outlet of the measuring tape 13. The buffer body 2 is made of a material which has a larger friction index. When the braking button 12 is pressed, the pressing end 121 engages the top surface of the measuring tape 13 and the buffer body 2 will clamp the measuring tape. Thereby, as the measuring tape is braked, a larger friction force is obtained so as to fix the pulled measuring tape for measuring an object.

Description

AN IMPROVED BRAKING DEVICE OF A MEASURING TAPE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to an improved braking device of a measuring tape, and especially to an improved braking device, wherein the measuring tape can be fixed with a small force.
2. Description of the Prior Art As shown in Fig. 1,2A and 2B, a prior art measuring tape structure is disclosed.
The measuring tape includes a casing 11, a braking button 12, a measuring tape 13, an elastic strip 14, a winding wheel 15, and other components. With reference to Fig.
1A, the bottom pressing end 121 of the braking button 12 is separated with the measuring tape 13 so that the measuring tape 13 can be pulled or rewound freely. As shown in Fig. 2, when the user push the braking button 12 toward the sliding groove of the casing, the bottom pressing end 121 of the braking button 12 will tightly resist a, ainst the top surface of the measuring tape 13 so that the bottom of the measuring tape 13 contacts with part of the casing 11A,... However, since the casing 11 and the braking button 12 of the measuring tape are made by hard material. The friction forces between the bottom pressing end 121 of the braking button 12 and the top surface of the measuring tape 13, the bottom of the measuring tape 13 and the part casing 11A,... are small. Thus, they can not tightly engaged. Since an elastic strip 14 often applies a force to the measuring tape 13, thus when the measuring tape 13 is braked, a restoring force still applies to the measuring tape so that it is difficult to be fixed.
Moreover, since the casing 11 is made of materials without elasticity and only installed with one opening for receiving the measuring tape 13, the material on the rim portion of the casing also has no elasticity. When the measuring tape 13 is rewind backwards, the piece 131 in front of the measuring tape will be strongly impacted by the restoring force of the elastic strip 14. Thus, the user will not steadily hold the measuring tape. Moreover, he (or she) is possible hurt.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, the object of the present invention is to provide an improved braking device of a measuring tape. In this braking device of measuring tape, an elastic buffer body is matched with a braking button so as to attain the braking action of clamping a measuring tape. Thus, the measuring tape can be fixed without tightly pressing the measuring tape and the protection of the measuring tape is increased. In the improvement of the braking device of the present invention, a buffer body is installed the outlet of the measuring tape within the casing. Thus, the dynamic force thereof is absorbed by the buffer body and the rewinding speed is reduced so as not to impact the hand of the user.
The present invention will be better understood and its numerous objects and avantages will become apparent to those skilled in the art by referencing to the following drainas in which : BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is the schematic view of a pivotal axis measuring tape.
Fig. 2A is a cross sectional view of a prior art measuring tape structure.
Fig. 2B is a cross sectional view after a prior art measuring tape has acted.
Fig. 3A is a cross sectional view showing that the measuring tape of the present invention has not been braked.
Fig. 3B is a cross sectional view showing that the measuring tape of the present invention has been braked.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT As shown in Fig. 3, the measuring tape structure of the present invention is disclosed. The measuring tape of the present invention includes a casing 11, a braking button 12, a measuring tape 13, an elastic strip 14, a winding wheel 15, and other components. The casing 11 is formed by screwing a left and a right housing.
One of the housings has an elastic strip fixing shaft 21 on the center thereof. The measuring tape 13 winds the elastic strip 14. The braking button 12 can be pushed in a sliding groove 25 so that the pressing end 121 on the bottom thereof can press the measuring tape 13 or separated with the measuring tape so as to brake or release the measuring tape 13. Controlling the telescoping action of the measuring tape 13 by elastic strip 14 is well known in the prior art, thus the detail will not be further described herein. The following description only describes the improvement of the braking structure.
As shown in Figs. 3A and 3B, a buffer body 2 is located within the inner surface of the casing 11 near the outlet 111 for telescoping the measuring tape 13. The buffer body is made by elastic materials, integrally formed with the casing 2 and adhered to the casing 11. The buffer body is in a position so that when the braking button 12 is pushed downwards, the bottom pressing end 121 of the braking button 12 and the buffer body 2 will clamp the measuring tape 13, as shown in Fig. 3B.
Referring now to Fig. 3A, when the present invention has not been operated, the braking button 12 is on the upper portion of the sliding groove 16 of the casing 11. The pressing end 121 of the bottom thereof does not contact with the measuring tape 13, thus the measuring tape may be pulled freely. When the measuring tape 13 is pulled to a predetermined position so that it is required to be fixed, as shown in Fi. 3B, the control button needs to be pushed downwards. After the control key 12 move downwards, the pressing end 12 will eject the top end of the measuring tape 13 and to clamp the measuring tape 13 with the buffer body 2. Since the buffer body 2 is formed by rubber and other elastic material. As a result, the friction of the measuring tape 13 is increased greatly. Therefore, the measuring tape. 13 is fixed effectively.
Referring now to Fig. 3A, when the control key 12 pushed upwards, the measuring tape 13 is rewound. When the measuring tape is rewound by the action of the elastic strip 3 so that buffer body 2 within the inner surface of the casing 11 is also rewound, the buffer body 2 will rub the measuring tape 13. Therefore, the rewinding speed of the casing 13 can be reduced.
It will be appreciated that by the improved braking device of a measuring tape according to the present invention, the measuring tape may be fixed without strongly pressing the measuring tape. The rewinding speed of the measuring tape is reduced, and the holding sense of the user is thus not effected.
Although the present invention has been described using specified embodiment, the examples are meant to be illustrative and not restrictive. It is clear that many other variations would be possible without departing from the basic approach, demonstrated in the present invention.
