Description

Herbal Mixture for Smoking The present invention relates to a herbal mixture for smoking.

The smoking of tobacco is known to cause ill-health.

However, the addictive properties of nicotine in tobacco make it difficult for people to stop smoking.

There are various herbal cigarettes on the market which commonly use the herb coltsfoot as a base. Such cigarettes are marketed as a healthy alternative to traditional tobaccobased cigarettes.

The present invention seeks to provide a herbal mixture for smoking that is pleasant to smoke and is suitable as a tobacco-substitute.

According to the present invention there is provided a herbal mixture for smoking comprising fennel, aniseed and sage.

Preferably, the fennel is fennel seed and the aniseed is star aniseed.

The herbal mixture may contain more fennel by weight than aniseed: it may contain more fennel by weight than sage: it may contain more fennel by weight than the sum of aniseed and sage: it may contain more sage by weight than aniseed.

In one embodiment, the herbal mixture comprises, by weight, from 50 to 70 % fennel, from 5 to 20 % aniseed and from 20 to 40 % sage.

In a preferred embodiment, the herbal mixture comprises, by weight, about 59 % fennel, about 12 % aniseed and about 29 % sage.

The herbal mixture may further comprise a flavouring agent such as clove and/or mint.

The inventor has checked the herbal properties of the ingredients of the mixture in herbal pharmacopoeia texts.

The claimed ingredients are believed to be safe to smoke.

The herbal mixture may be used to fill a cigarette or a pipe.

Preferably, the herbal mixture is substantially nicotinefree. In a preferred embodiment, the herbal mixture contains no or minimal tobacco.

Even when the herbal mixture contains no or minimal tobacco, the inventor has found that it provides a taste and strength upon smoking which satisfy even a hardened smoker's taste for tobacco.

The fennel and sage ingredients are understood to be beneficial to the health of one's chest. The herbal mixture, when smoked, is therefore believed to have medicinal properties.

An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only. A batch of a herbal mixture is prepared by grinding 100 grams of dried fennel seeds, 20 grams of dried star aniseed and 0.5 grams of dried cloves in a grinder. These ground ingredients are mixed with 50 grams of dried sage. The dried sage is prepared by steaming, cutting and drying sage leaves; a tobacco cutter may be used.

The resulting herbal mixture is loaded into an automated machine for rolling cigarettes or is packaged for consumers to use as a filling for hand-rolled cigarettes or pipes.

The herbal mixture is not cured and no sweeteners such as acetic acid are added.

CLAIMS 1. A herbal mixture for smoking comprising fennel, aniseed and sage.
2. A herbal mixture as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fennel is fennel seed.
3. A herbal mixture as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the aniseed is star aniseed.
4. A herbal mixture as claimed in any preceding claim, containing more fennel by weight than sage.
5. A herbal mixture as claimed in any preceding claim, containing more fennel by weight than aniseed.
6. A herbal mixture as claimed in any preceding claim, containing more fennel by weight than the sum of sage and aniseed.
7. A herbal mixture as claimed in any preceding claim, containing more sage by weight than aniseed.
8. A herbal mixture as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising, by weight, from 50 to 70 % fennel, from 5 to 20 % aniseed and from 20 to 40 % sage.
9. A herbal mixture as claimed in claim 8, comprising, by weight, about 59 % fennel, about 12 % aniseed and about 29 % sage.
10. A herbal mixture as claimed in any preceding claim, further comprising a flavouring agent.
11. A herbal mixture as claimed in claim 10, wherein the flavouring agent is clove and/or mint.
12. A cigarette or pipe containing the herbal mixture of any preceding claim.
13. A herbal mixture, cigarette or pipe substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the example.
