Abstract

Flooring apparatus having a number of panel members (Fig 4) interconnectable by a plurality of elongate support members (Fig 5) each of which extends between adjacent panel members by slidable mounting to a lower face of the panel members, e.g. by dovetail tongues / grooves as shown. Clips (Figs 1-3, not shown) are provided at the end of each support member to engage a corresponding formation on adjacent panel members to secure the system together.

Description

THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A MULTI-PUROPSE PORTABLE FLOOR SYSTEM-WEBLOK POLYFLOOR.
This is a design which allows the same plank of floor to be used in two different applications;1. Several planks are fixed together to form solid panels which will inter connect with each other using battens slid underneath the planks into a dovetail joint. These battens give strength and support, and protrude past the planks and have an integral shaped clip at the ends which lock into a grove on the adjoining panels.
The panels can be made to any shape and size, but standard sizes would be 8ft x 2ft and 4ft x 2ft which laid next to each other like bricks will stagger and support all joints.
2. Due to the ball and socket type hinge joint instead of a standard tongue and grove joint, the planks can be joined together to give a roll-up floor. In this case the dovetailed battens would be inserted into grooves machined length ways down the planks to be laid on very rough ground and follow the contours of the land.
In this design there are three components: Drawing 1/3 shows the plank with its'ball and socket'joint, the dovetail cut-outs for accepting connecting battens, and the triangular cut outs near the edge for the clip on'adjoining panels'battens to hook under. Other cut outs are for saving material and are not essential.
Drawing 2/3 shows the clip which will go into the end of the batten. Fig. 1. shows a side view of the clip. The first larger clip will lock into the next panel, the smaller barb will lock the clip into the batten and prevent it from falling out. Fig. 2 shows how the clip will fit into the batten. Fig. 3 shows an elevation drawing of the top of the clip.
Drawing 3/3 shows the batten with the dovetail connection.

Claims (22)

  1. CLAIMS 1. Flooring apparatus comprising a plurality of panel members and a plurality of elongate support members to connect the panel members to one another, wherein each support member extends between adjacent panel members and is slidably mounted to a lower face of the panel members, and clip means provided at the end of the support members to engage a corresponding formation on said adjacent panel members.
  2. 2. Flooring apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the elongate support members are in the form of battens.
  3. 3. Flooring apparatus according to claim 1 of 2 wherein the elongate support members are slidably mounted to adjacent panel members at dove tail joints.
  4. 4. Flooring apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the elongate support members comprise dove tail shaped projections, and the lower face of the panel members comprise dove tail shaped recesses.
  5. 5. Flooring apparatus according to any preceding claim, wherein the clip means are provided with projections to be slidably received in the lower face of the panel members.
  6. 6. Flooring apparatus according to any preceding claim wherein the clip means are separate from the elongate support members and are adapted to be attached thereto.
  7. 7. Flooring apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the clip means comprise a tongue to be received in an aperture defined in the elongate support member.
