Buffers; combined buffer and draw-gear. - A central coupling adapter for converting side-buffer vehicles to central buffer-coupling vehicles comprises a coupler beam of cast metal to replace the previous beam, a seating for the central coupler, and transverse reinforcements arranged to transmit the forces to the side frames of the vehicle, the whole constituting a self-contained unit. The beam a comprising a rectangular plate of cast steel extends across the side frames to the full width of the vehicle, and may be provided with a central box casting c stiffened by webs d, e, to which the coupler f is attached. In a modification intended for couplers of the long shank type, the box casting is provided with a central opening and an extended boss on the inner side of the transverse plate.
