Description

INPUT PEN, INPUT DEVICE AND PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE USING INPUT PEN, AND METHOD OF USING HAND STRAP MECHANISM WITH CLIP The present invention relates to an input pen, an input device and a portable electronic device each using the input pen, and a method of using a hand strap mechanism with a clip. More particularly, the present invention relates to a portable electronic device such as a portable telephone (a cellular phone), a simplified portable telephone or the like having instruction input function or handwritten input function, an instruction input type input device (pointing device) and a handwritten input type input device (tablet) each having an input pen, an input pen for a touch panel attached to the instruction input type or handwritten input type input device, and a method of using a hand strap mechanism with a clip.
A portable electronic device with a touch panel type handwritten input function (hereinafter referred to a portable terminal) is provided with a pressure sensitive type transparent tablet on the surface of a liquid crystal display portion so that the tablet is pressed down by an input pen to contact with the display portion thereby to perform the handwritten input. The input pen formed by the material hardly scratching the surface of the tablet and having a pen-shaped configuration is employed.
As an input pen attached to the portable terminal with the handwritten input function, there are known one which is inserted within the main body of the portable terminal, another one which is held by a holder provided at the main body of the portable terminal, or the like. Figs. 10 and 11 are perspective views, showing the main bodies and the input pens of portable terminals with handwritten input functions as examples.
In the portable terminal shown in Fig. 10, a terminal main body portion 502 is provided with a holder 509 for holding an input pen 501. In the portable terminal shown in Fig. 11, a terminal main body portion 512 is provided with a groove or hole 519 for an input pen 511 to be inserted therein.
However, the input pen attached to the portable terminal with the handwritten input function has such problems that the input pen may come out of the main body portion and be lost when the portable terminal is dropped, for example, and further that since the portable terminal main body portion is required to be provide with the holder or the space for inserting the input pen therein, it is difficult to miniaturize the portable terminal main body portion and lighten the weight thereof.
A hand strap mechanism used for a portable terminal such as a portable telephone or the like is formed by a ring-shaped string, one end of which is attached to the portable terminal, so that it is preferable to carry the portable terminal bypassing an arm or a hand through the ring-shaped portion. However, such a hand strap mechanism has a problem that when the portable terminal is put within the pocket of a handbag, for example, it is difficult to wind the hand strap around the handle of the handbag or the like so as to prevent the portable terminal from falling from the pocket.
The present invention has been made in view of the aforesaid problems and an object of the present invention is to provide an input pen, an input device and a portable electronic device each using the input pen, and a method of using a hand strap mechanism with a clip, wherein an input pen for a touch panel attached to the instruction input type or handwritten input type input device of a portable electronic device is arranged to have a hand strap mechanism with a clip. This arrangement makes it possible to prevent the loss of the input pen by merely attaching the input pen to the main body of the portable electronic device as a hand strap and to dispense with a separate or discrete hand strap mechanism other than the input pen. Further, the main body of the portable electronic device need not have an input pen receiving or holding portion, thereby making it possible to miniaturize the main body of the portable electronic device and lighten the weight thereof.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an input pen, an input device and a portable electronic device each using the input pen, and a method of using a hand strap mechanism with a clip, which can facilitate the winding of the hand strap around the handle of a handbag or the like, thereby improving the portability of the portable electronic device and the operability for preventing the device from falling.
In order to attain the aforesaid objects, an input pen according to a first aspect of the present invention is designed as an input pen for a touch panel attached to an instruction input type or a handwritten input type input device of a portable electronic device, which includes a hand strap mechanism having: a string-shaped member for coupling the portable-electronic device to the main body of the input pen; and a clip portion for holding a part of the string-shaped member or other member such as a cloth or the like.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, the input pen of the first aspect is further featured in that the clip portion includes a pair of holding members combined so as to be freely opened and closed.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, the input pen of the first aspect is further featured in that the clip portion includes a space for freely inserting the string-shaped member therethrough and a pair of nail-shaped members provided protrusively so as to surround the space.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, the input pen of the third aspect is further featured in that the pair of nail-shaped members are made of elastic material.
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, the input pen of the first, second, third or fourth aspect is further featured in that the input pen incorporates an illuminating system at a tip portion of a main body thereof.
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, an instruction input type or a handwritten input type input device of a portable electronic device is provided, which includes: a touch panel; the input pen for the touch panel of the first, second, third, fourth or fifth apsect ; and a hand strap mechanism.
A portable electronic device according to a seventh aspect of the present invention includes an instruction input type or a handwritten input type input device having a touch panel, the input pen for the touch panel of the first, second third, fourth or fifth aspect and a hand strap mechanism.
A method of using a hand strap mechanism with a clip according to an eight aspect of the present invention is a method of using the hand strap mechanism with the clip which is integrally formed by a string-shaped member and a clip portion having a space for freely inserting the string-shaped member therethrough and a pair of nail-shaped members protrusively provided so as to surround the space, wherein the clip portion holds the string-shaped member.
In the input pen according to the first aspect, the input device according to the sixth aspect and the portable electronic device according to the seventh aspect, the input pen for the touch panel attached to the instruction input type or handwritten input type input device of the portable electronic device is provided with the hand strap mechanism, whereby the clip portion holds a portion of the string-shaped member for coupling the main body of the input pen with the portable electronic device or other member such as a cloth or the like.
In this manner, since the input pen itself is configured also to serve as the hand strap mechanism, it is no longer necessary to provide the hand strap mechanism separately from the input pen, whereby it is possible to reduce the number of the parts of the input pen and also the number of the parts of the input device or the portable electronic device attached with the input pen.
Further, when the input pen serving as the hand strap by itself is attached to the portable electronic device or the input device, the input pen can be prevented from being lost. Further, since it is not necessary to provide a housing portion for the input pen at the main body of the portable electronic device or the input device, the main body portion of the portable electronic device or the input device can be miniaturized and lightened in its weight.
Furthermore, as a result, since the outward configuration of the portable electronic device or the input device becomes simple, such a supplemental effect can be attained that the manufacturing process of the portable terminal can be simplified.
In the input pen according to the second aspect, the input device according to the sixth aspect and the portable electronic device according to the seventh aspect, the clip portion of the hand strap mechanism is provided with the pair of holding members combined so as to be freely opened and closed, and the pair of holding members hold a portion of the string-shaped member or other member such as a cloth or the like.
Thus, since the clip portion directly holds a portion of the string-shaped member or other member such as a cloth or the like, the input pen is prevented from being lost, and the main body of the portable electronic device or the input device is prevented from falling on the ground even if the main body comes out of a pocket or the like, whereby the portable electronic device or the input device can be prevented from being lost.
In the input pen according to the third and fourth aspects, the input device according to sixth aspect, the portable electronic device according to the seventh aspect and the method of using the hand strap mechanism with the clip according to the eighth aspect, the clip portion is formed by the space capable of freely inserting therethrough the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism and the pair of nail-shaped members provided protrusively so as to surround the space so that the nail-shaped members of the clip portion hold the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism.
For example, when the distance between the pair of the nail-shaped members is made smaller than the thickness of the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism and then the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism is pressed into the clearance between the pair of the nail-shaped members so that the clip portion hold the string-shaped member, the hand strap can be surely and easily wound around a handle of a handbag or the like. As a consequence, the portability of the portable electronic device or the input device and the operability for preventing the device from falling can be improved. For example, when the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism is wound around the handle of the handbag or the like and thereafter the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism is hooked or hanged on the nail-shaped members of the clip portion, the input device and the portable electronic device can be prevented from falling from a handbag or the like with a simple winding operation.
In particular, in the input pen according to the fourth aspect, since the pair of nail-shaped members provided protrusively so as to surround the space which freely inserts therethrough the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism are made of elastic material, the clip portion can surely hold the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism. That is, the pair of nail-shaped members can surely hold the string-shaped member due to the stress caused by the deformation of the elastic material. Further, since an amount of the resistance at the time of inserting the string-shaped member into or extracting it from the space formed by the nail-shaped members can be reduced, the operability of the hand strap mechanism can be further improved.
Further, in particular, in the method of using the hand strap mechanism with the clip according to the eighth aspect, the clip portion formed by the space capable of freely inserting therethrough the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism and the pair of nail-shaped members provided protrusively so as to surround the space is integrally formed with the hand strap mechanism, the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism is wound around the handle of the handbag or the like and thereafter the string-shaped member of the hand strap mechanism is hooked or hanged on the nail-shaped members of the clip portion, whereby the main body is prevented from falling from a handbag or the like.
In the input pen according to the fifth apsect, the input device according to the sixth aspect and the portable electronic device according to the seventh aspect, since the illumination system is incorporated within the tip portion of the main body portion of the input pen, the liquid crystal screen can be illuminated. Thus, it is possible to perform the write input or instruction input of characters and numerals into the portable electronic device or the input device even in a dark environment, so that the input pen, the portable electronic device or the input device can be used for writing in a dark place.

[First embodiment] Fig. 1 is a perspective view for explaining the structure of the input pen according to the first embodiment of the present invention. The input pen of this embodiment is a preferable one embodied according to the first and second aspects.
In Fig. 1, an input pen 101 includes a hand strap mechanism having a clip portion 103 and a strap 104. The strap 104 corresponds to a preferable example of a string-shaped member recited in claims, and can be attached to the main body portion of a portable electronic device or an input device. In this case, the main body of the input pen is coupled to the portable electronic device or the input device. The clip portion 103 is formed in a pen-shaped configuration by combining a pair of holding members so as to be freely opened and closed so that the clip portion holds a portion of the strap 104 or other member such as a cloth or the like.
The clip portion 103 includes a fixed portion 105, a movable portion 106, a shaft 107 and a coiled spring 108. The coiled spring 108 is arranged to pass the shaft 107 therethrough thereby to press the fixed portion 105 and the movable portion 106 so that (the pair of the holding member of) the clip portion 103 is applied with force so as to normally close. A saw-toothed portion is formed at each of the corresponding portions of the fixed portion 105 and the movable portion 106 so as to serve as a slip-preventing or pressing member when the saw-toothed portions hold a something therebetween as a clip (holding members). An elongated rodshaped pen tip portion 110 is provided at the tip portion of the clip portion 103.
The concrete using modes of the input pen according to the embodiment thus configured will be explained with reference to Figs. 2,3 and 4 as to the case where the input pen is used as one for a touch panel attached to a portable electronic device or an instruction input type or a handwritten input type input device of the portable electronic device.
Fig. 2 is a diagram for explaining the first using mode in the case where the input pen 101 according to the embodiment is used for a portable terminal 102. According to the first using mode shown in Fig. 2, the hand strap mechanism of the input pen 101 is utilized in a manner that the strap 104 of the input pen 101 is attached to the main body portion of the portable terminal 102, then the portable terminal 102 is inserted within a pocket 151 of a cloth or the like, and the pocket 151 is held by the clip portion 103 (holding member) of the input pen 101.
According to such a using mode, the main body portion of the portable terminal 102 is prevented from coming out of and falling from the pocket 151. Further, even if the main body portion of the terminal 101 comes out of the pocket 151, since the pocket 105 is held by the clip portion 103 of the input pen 101 coupled with the main body portion through the strap 104, the main body portion is prevented from falling.
Fig. 3 is a diagram for explaining the second using mode in the case where the input pen 101 according to the embodiment is used for the portable terminal 102. According to the second using mode shown in Fig. 3, the hand strap mechanism of the input pen 101 is utilized in a manner that the strap 104 of the input pen 101 is attached to the main body portion of the portable terminal 102, then the portable terminal 102 is inserted within a pocket 161 of a handbag 162, then the strap 104 is wound around a handle 163 of the handbag 162, and the strap 104 is held by the clip portion 103 (holding member) of the input pen.
According to such a second using mode, the strap 104 is wound around the handle 163 of the handbag 162 and threreafter the clip portion 103 holds the strap so that the clip portion does not come out of the handle. Thus, even if the main body of the portable terminal 102 falls from the pocket 161 of the handbag 162, since the strap is held or caught by the handle 163 of the handbag 162 due to the hand strap mechanism of the input pen 101, the main body of the portable terminal 102 is prevented from falling on the ground.
Further, Fig. 4 is a diagram for explaining the third using mode in the case where the input pen 101 according to the embodiment is used for the portable terminal 102 or the input device of the portable terminal 102. According to the third using mode shown in Fig 4, the input pen 101 according to the embodiment and a pressure sensitive type transparent tablet 121 disposed on the surface of a liquid crystal display portion are provided as the instruction input type or handwritten input type input device, and the strap 104 of the input pen 101 is attached to the main body portion of the portable terminal 102.
At the time of performing the instruction input or the handwritten input in such a portable terminal 102 and an input device, as shown in Fig. 4, a person grasps the clip portion 103 of the pen-shaped input pen 101 and depresses the surface of the tablet 121 at the pen tip portion 110 to contact the tablet with the surface of the liquid crystal display portion thereby to input data. The pen tip portion 110 of the input pen 101 is formed by the material hardly scratching the surface of the tablet 121.
As described above, since the input pen 101 according to the embodiment is configured that the input pen 101 itself is provided with the hand strap mechanism, it is not necessary to provide the hand strap mechanism separately from the input pen 101. Further, since the input pen 101 serving as the hand strap by itself is attached to the portable terminal 102 through the strap 104, the input pen 101 can be prevented from being lost. Further, since it is not necessary to provide a housing portion for the input pen 101 at the main body portion of the portable terminal 102, the main body portion of the portable terminal 102 can be miniaturized and lightened in its weight. Furthermore, since the outward configuration of the portable terminal 102 is simple, such a supplemental effect can be attained that the manufacturing process of the portable terminal can be simplified.
