Abstract

An ice glove (1) has an integral padded flexible plate or base material (3) on the palm, back, lower edge or little finger regions of the glove into which is securely attached a single or closely adjacent connected series of plates or blades (4,5) arranged so they protrude below the line of the lower palm and extended little finger and at right angles to the line, the blades (4,5) fashioned so that the gloved hand may freely open or close (see figures 2,3) so that the blades may be used to dig into snow, ice or the like, to arrest unwanted motion on a slope, assist in the ascent of a slope, or used to gain grip for some other purpose. The edges of the blades (4,5) may be honed, serrated or sharpened. The glove has padded fingers or may be a mitten, and may comprise a wrist strap (2). The glove may be made from a waterproof material, and may include a mechanism whereby the blades be sprung, retractable or removable.

Description

ICE GLOVE This invention relates to utility of ski Alpine and other similar gloves.

The use of gloves for warmth while climbing or skiing is normal practice. However, on steep and icy slopes it often occurs that a skier or climber falls and is in danger of sliding out of control down a slope and beyond often incurring injury due to the speed gathered. In such instances it is common to attempt to arrest the sliding descent by clawing the slope with the hands. This is however may be to little effect due to the slipperiness or the slope and the inability to gain a grip of purchase with smooth or padded fingers. The present invention seeks to remedy this problem by providing a pair of ski/climE inr gloves with integral ice grips.

According to the present invention there is provided an ICE GLOVE with padded fingers or optionally mittemd having within the palm or back and/or lower edge or small finger of the glove an integral padded flexible plate or base material into which is set stitched stuck woven or otherwise securely emplaced a singular blade or multiple closely adjacent or connected series of plates or blades so arranged as to protrude below the line of the lower palm and extended small finger at right angles and having an edge or edges optionally honed serrated or sharpened being so shaped or otherwise fashioned that the gloved hand may freely open and close and allow with the hand open semi-open or optimally closed in a clenched fist to permit the blade or blades to be used to cut into penetrate dia or scoop ice snow or other designated substance as a tool or used to acquire purchase arip and resistance on such surfaces when the wearer wishes to arrest unwanted motion on a slope or to assist the asceiit of a slope or otherwise be used as required on a given snow or ice or similar surface to dig in embed or otherwise gain grip.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 Shows a fingered ice glove with open hand palm facing.

Referring to the drawings- The ice glove comprises a fingered glove 1 having a tightly securable wrist strap 2 and a padded integral flexible palm plate 3 having securely set with the palm plate a series of rigid blades 4 configure to lie parallel across the palm plate with their points and blade edges pointing at a right angle to the line of the open fingers and protruding downwards below the line of the lower palm edge. At the base of the glove along the line of the lower palm and small finger are a row of serrated blades 5. When in use the ice glove is closed by clenching the glove (Figure 2) so as to provide a good purchase on the blades 4 and to curve the serrated blades 5 forming them severally and collectively into a curved or scoop formation (Figure 4) thereby permitting their use for digging in gripping or scooping snow or ice or otherwise as required.

Claims

CLAIMS I An ICE GLOVE with padded fingers or optionally mittened having within the palm or back and/or lower edge or small finger of the glove an integral padded flexible plate or base material into which is set stitched stuck woven or otherwise securely emplaced a singular blade or multiple closely adjacent or connected series of plates or blades so arranged as to protrude below the line of the lower palm and extended small finger at right angles and having an edge or edges optionally honed serrated or sharpened being so shaped or otherwise fashioned that the gloved hand may freely open and close and allow with the hand open semi-open or optimally closed in a clenched fist to permit the blade or blades to be used to cut into penetrate dig or scoop ice snow or other designated substance as a tool or used to acquire purchase grip and resistance on such surfaces when the wearer wishes to arrest unwanted motion on a slope or to assist the ascent of a slope or otherwise be used as required on a given snow or ice or similar surface to dig in embed or otherwise gain grip.
2 An ICE GLOVE as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the glove have a securely closeable wrist strap or tie.
3 An ICE GLOVE as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 palm plate may contain a mechanism whereby the blades may be sprung or otherwise retractable or removable.
4 An ICE GLOVE substantially as described herein with reference to the Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.

4 An ICE GLOVE as claimed in Claim I and Claim 2 and Claim 3 wherein the glove may be made from material impervious to water and liquids.
