Abstract

A drilling guide comprises a body made of moulded plastic forming a handle 3 with pads at either end. The pads have foam 2 on their undersides for contact with a surface to be drilled. The pads have bearings 1, of the ball bearing type moulded into them, with through holes for locating a drill bit. Smaller sized drill bits may be used by fitting a sleeve 4 into the hole. The guide is used when drilling surfaces which may cause the drill bit to wander if not restrained, eg such as drilling ceramic tiles or car body work.

Description

Drilling Guide la.
This invention relates to a drilling guide.
The purpose of the drilling guide is to allow a hole to be drilled on a surface such as a ceramic wall tile or car bodywork where it is not possible to use a punch to guide the Drill. One of the bearings at either end of the guide is placed central to where the hole is required, The guide is held in one hand and the drill is held in the other. The drill bit is then placed in the bearing and the hole can be drilled whilst applying slight pressure to the guide.
The body of the guide is moulded from plastic (abs or similar) with a sealed ball bearing at either end, The bearings are moulded into the body.
Each bearing has a different internal diameter allowing for different sizes of drill Bit to be used. An additional sleeve may be used to reduce the bearing size thus enabling a smaller drill bit to be used.
The underside of the guide has a layer of foam rubber adhered to it, this serves two Functions ; A. To prevent the guide from slipping when in use.
B. To prevent the guide damaging the surface being drilled.
Reference to accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows position of bearings ; Figure 2 shows foam rubber pads on underside; Figure 3shows handle ; Figure 4 shows additional reducing sleeve used for small drill bits.

Claims (7)

Claims.
1 A Drilling Guide which uses ball bearings to keep a drill bit in position.
2 A drilling guide as claimed in claim 1 wherein a moulded plastic body incorporates ball bearings as guides.
3 A drilling guide as claimed in claim I and claim 2 which has additional sleeves To allow smaller drill bits to be used.
4 A drilling guide as claimed in any preceding claim wherein foam rubber pads are used to keep guide in position.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A drilling guide comprising a body having a base and a handle for holding the base in position against a surface to be drilled, and a sealed ball bearing in the base and providing an aperture through the base for guidance of a drill bit.
2. A guide according to claim 1, wherein the base has an antislip layer on the side to be held against the surface to be drilled.
3. A guide according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the base has a portion at each end of the handle for location against the surface to be drilled.
4. A guide according to claim 3, wherein each base portion has a sealed ball bearing therein.
5. A guide according to claim 4, wherein the sealed ball bearings in the respective base portions provide differently sized apertures for guiding differently sized drill bits.
6. A guide according to any of claims 1 to 5, in combination with an aperture reducing sleeve for fitting into a sealed ball bearing to enable guidance of a drill bit of lesser diameter.
7. A drilling guide substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
