Abstract
A motorcycle manoeuvring device comprises a track that carries the motorcycle, the track being pivotable about either one of two points 10 and 11 when it is released from the other point. The device can be used to manoeuvre a motorcycle in a garage such that it can be stored transversely in front of, or behind, a car.
Description
Motor Cycle Storage Device
This invention relates specifically (but not exclusively) to a motor cycle secure storage and manoeuvring device providing easy access for the motorcycle user.
Motor cycles are often stored in confined spaces specifically (but not exclusively), in owner's garages, either behind or in front of a car. In order to make best use of the space the motor cycle must be manoeuvred so that it is at right angles to and in front of or behind the car. This is a difficult task, as the motorcycles wheels do not allow for such a movement; this often results in the motorcycle having to be dragged and lifted into position. The same procedure has then to be carried out in reverse in order to use the motorcycle.
According to the present invention there is provided a wheeled track assembly incorporating a releasable secured pivot at either end of the track. Each pivot is affixed to the floor allowing the track assembly to rotate around either of the pivots independently and secured to both for storage.
A specific example of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2.1 to 2.3 is an exploded view of the device.
Figure 3 shows a plan view of the device against the rear wall of a garage.
Figure 4 shows a plan view of a motorcycle being wheeled onto the device
Figure 5 shows the device and motorcycle rotating around pivot 10
Figure 6 shows the complete assembly and motorcycle locked in its storage position
Figure 7 shows the device and motorcycle rotating around pivot 11
Figure 8 shows a plan view of a motorcycle being wheeled off the device.
Referring to figure 6, the device comprises a wheeled track 12 and two pivots 10 and 11. The track may rotate around either pivot or may be locked for secure storage by connecting to both pivots. The release plate 14 acts around retaining pin 15 to release main pivot 10, allowing rotation of track around opposite pivot 11. On securing the track back into the pivot, angled face 17 on release plate 14 automatically rotates clear to allow entry of pivot 10. The release plate 14 will then spring back to retain pivot 10 when fully docked. Pivot 11 will act in this same way when the track is released to rotate around pivot 10. Floor mounted loop 13 acts to stop rotation around a given pivot when docking the track, as well as providing a secure anchor to which a chain or other such locking device be attached, thus locking the motorcycle to the floor. Handle 16 can be used to manoeuvre track. Handle 16 can also be used in conjunction with the floor mounted loop 13 in providing a secure anchor for motorcycle retention.
Claims (7)
- CLAIMS 1. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle comprising a wheeled track capable of 360 degree movement on a horizontal surface, releasably secured pivots providing fixed points about which the track may be rotated, means for a motorcycle to be wheeled on and off the track.
- 2. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the wheeled track may be releasably secured to pivot points which are permanently secured to the floor.
- 3. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein releasably secured pivot s are provided by lockable casters.
- 4. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the track provides a moveable platform for a motorcycle.
- 5. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle as claimed in any preceding claim incorporating a ramp at either end of the track thus allowing for a motorcycle to be driven on and off the track.
- 6. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle as claimed in any preceding claim incorporating a wheeled track which allows a motorcycle to stand in a static position relative to the track and to be supported on it's wheels.
- 7. A device for manoeuvring and storing a motorcycle substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-8 of the accompanying drawing.
