Abstract
A shaving aid comprises a strip (1) of a suitable material such as plastics which is adapted to be fitted over the head of a conventional razor (5). The strip (1) is provided, on one side, with a series of projections (2) and, on its opposite side, with a groove or slot (3) which is adapted to receive the head of the razor (5). When fitted to the razor, the shaving aid can be drawn over the face or other part of the body with an action akin to the normal shaving action. This serves to raise the hairs from the skin and results in a closer and more efficient shave when the razor is used for normal shaving.
Description
Title : IMPROVEMENTS IN SHAVING AIDS
This invention relates to aids for shaving and seeks to provide means to enable a closer shave to be achieved.
It is a sad and unfortunate fact that, in our day and age where technology is so far advanced, men and women still suffer with shaving problems. Many people shave their facial and body hair on a daily basis, in some cases with disastrous effects, resulting in skin irritation, skin rashes and other problems. Some men look forward to a smooth clean shave, given by their barber, but unfortunately this is a luxury which can be quite expensive.
Some fortunate people have no trouble at all with shaving. These are people for whom hair grows straight out from their faces like small needles and include the
Chinese, East Indians and most Caucasians. Unfortunately, there are also a great number of men who dread the thought of shaving, among whom are mainly
Africans, Afro-Caribbean, black Americans and also Caucasians with coarse curly hair. This group of people have in-growing hairs that curl back and re-enter pores of the skin. This causes pimples and often infection. The more the skin is shaved, the more the infection spreads resulting in a spotty lumpy skin.
It has previously been proposed to alleviate this problem by means of a tool comprising a strip on which a number of raised projections are provided. The strip is applied to the face, prior to shaving, in order to raise the hairs from the surface of the skin. If shaving is then carried out in a conventional manner, a smooth close shave can achieved.
The disadvantage with the known device is that it requires the use of a bulky handle and the present invention aims to provide an improvement over this prior device.
According to the invention, there is provided a shaving aid which comprises a strip of material having on one side a series of raised projections and being provided, on its opposite face, with means adapted to fit over the head of a conventional razor.
The shaving aid may be adapted to slide over the head of a conventional razor.
Alternatively, the shaving aid may be clipped in place on the head of a razor.
The device can be fitted over a razor, prior to shaving, and then drawn over the face to raise the hairs. The device can then be removed from the razor and shaving can take place in the normal manner.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of a shaving aid according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the shaving aid shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view of one end of the shaving aid shown in Figs. 1 and 2;
Fig. 4 is a view of the other end of the shaving aid shown in Figs. 1 and 2 ; Fig. 5 shows the shaving aid illustrated in Fig. 1 fitted to a razor;
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of a shaving aid according to the invention;
Fig. 7 is a plan view of the shaving aid shown in Fig. 6 ; and
Fig. 8 is an end view of the shaving aid shown in Figs. 6 and 7.
In the drawings, like parts are denoted by like reference numerals.
Reference will first be made to Figs. 1 to 5 of the drawings in which a shaving aid according to the invention comprises a strip of material having an operative side 1 on which a series of raised projections 2 are provided. The other side 3 of the shaving aid is provided with a slot adapted to fit over the head of a razor 5 as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. One end of the slot may be closed by an end wall 4. This embodiment is fitted to the head of a razor by sliding it along the head from the open end until the end wall 4 butts against the end of the head of the razor. It can be removed by sliding the shaving aid in the opposite direction.
The shaving aid shown in Figs. 6-8 of the drawings differs from the previous embodiment in that it is provided with an end wall 4 at each end and with cut-out regions 6 intermediate its ends. A lip or ridge 7 is provided along the central region of one edge. This embodiment is fitted to a razor simply by clipping it over the head of a razor. The lip or ridge 7 serves to hold the shaving aid in place on the head of the razor.
The shaving aid according to the invention is preferably moulded from a suitable plastics material and may be rigid or flexible. The second embodiment shown in
Figs. 6-8 is desirably made of a resilient plastics material.
In use, the shaving aid is fitted to the head of a razor and is then drawn over the face or other body part with an action akin to the normal shaving action in order to raise the hairs from the skin. The shaving aid is then removed from the razor when shaving can be carried out in the usual manner. The result is a much closer shave.
The invention is not restricted to the above-described embodiment but variations and modifications may be made without departing from the scope thereof. For example, the shaving aid shown in Figs. 1 to 5 of the drawings may be provided with cut-out regions 6 and a lip or ridge 7 as with the embodiment shown in Figs.
6 to 8 of the drawings.
