Abstract

A lockable door lock cover comprises a mounting base 1 which fits around the door lock and catch, and which can be attached to a door by screws 11 or adhesive. A concave lid 2a is either hinged to the base 1, or is removable and is aligned using short studs on the base which engage holes in the lid 2a. A lock 10a activates locking bars 4 which secure the lid to the base . The base also has a raised outer edge to prevent prising off of the lid when it is secured to the base .

Description

LOCKING DOOR LOCK COVER This invention relates to a device for the protection of door latches.
A large majority of domestic properties have locks of the type that have mechanisms that allow the inhabitants thereof to turn releasing the lock from the catch and allowing exit from the property.
This type of lock, however, when placed on a door with glass panelling in its design or adjacent windows presents a point of weakness at which unwanted entry may be gained.
The invention comprises a hinged or totally removable device that locks into place covering the interior latch and thus preventing unwanted entry to the property by breakage of the glass panelling and turning of the catch release knob previously mentioned.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a lock of the type described above with an open, hinged device fitted.
Figure 2 shows the same device locked over the door lock.
Figure 3 shows a cross section of the base of the device Referring to the drawing, the lock protection device consists of an attachable mounting base (1); which comes in two parts so as to allow the opening of the door; and a hinged lid (2).
In figs 1 and 2, the hinge (7) is placed on the left of the unit. This is an example and differing placements of hinges to allow opening in any place convenient to the layout of different doors is stated herein. As previously mentioned the lid (2) may be completely removable, being aligned by means of short studs on the base (1) fitting into complementary holes on the lid (2) before being locked into place.
The base (1) on figures 1,2 and 3 has a raised outer edge as illustrated by fig. 3 which prevents any forced removal of the lid (2) when locked into place.
An example of a locking device (10) is shown in figures 1 and 2 where a key or suitable device activates the locking bars (4) which fix under the catches (5). This is an example of one of many ways in which the device could be secured.
In figures 1 and 3 the base (1) is fitted by screws (11). On doors of wood this is suitable, but for other materials resin glue would be an adequate substitute.
The lid (2) is suitably dished to allow the lid (2) to cover the door lock without fouling it in any way.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A locking door lock cover comprising a cover in the form of a concaved lid, with means for releasably securing on the main attachable base in order to cover door locking devices.
    2. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 1 wherein the concaved lid is either guided into place for securing onto the attachable base by means of a hinge or if the cover is completely removable by small studs fitting into corresponding holes in the attachable base as appropriate.
    3. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 where the concaved lid is secured by a mechanism which locks into place with a key or suitable device.
    4. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 where the attachable base is fixed to door around the lock by means of screws or a gluing substance.
    5. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 4 where the attachable base secured around the lock has a raised outer edge so that when secured into place the cover cannot be prised open from the side.
    6. A locking door lock cover as substantially described herein with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A locking door lock cover comprising a cover in the form of a concave lid with means for releasably securing the concave lid to an attachable mounting base. wherein the attachable mounting base comprises at least two parts to allow the opening of a door and is designed to fit around a door lock mechanism and catch, allowing comptete coverage of a door lock mechanism and catch by the concave lid when the concave lid is secured into place.
  2. 2. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concave lid is guided into place for securing onto the attachable mounting base by means of a hinge.
  3. 3. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein the concave lid is completely removable, being aligned by means of studs protruding from the attachable mounting base which enter corresponding holes in the concave lid.
  4. 4. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claim 1 ; wherein the concave lid is completely removable, being aligned by means of studs protruding from the concave lid which enter corresponding holes in the attachable mounting base.
  5. 5. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claims 1 to 4, where the concave lid is secured by a mechanism which locks into place with a key.
  6. 6. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claims 1 to 5, where the attachable mounting base is fixed to a door around a door lock mechanism and catch by means of screws or a gluing substance.
  7. 7. A locking door lock cover as claimed in claims 1 to 6, where the attachable mounting base is secured around a door lock mechanism and catch and has a raised outer edge so that when secured into place the concave lid cannot be prised open from the
