Healds and reeds, threading. - Relates to apparatus for selecting and separating warp threads in the preparation of the warp for looms for weaving of the type in which a carriage A, having a selector B with a hook device at one side and a separator C, is caused to travel past warp threads D suspended in a state of tension between top and bottom clamping members E, E' and consists in providing means for moving the bottom clamping members E<1> towards and away from a frame a and securing them in any adjusted position so as to increase or reduce the tension on the warp threads or move them entirely clear from the frame. In the construction shown, the frame a is the one on which the carriage A runs and the bottom clamping members comprise two bars, the front one of which is provided at each end with an L-shaped bracket E<2> having pivoted thereto a link E<3> of which the other end is pivoted at e to a bracket E<4> secured bv a screw E<5> to the back clamping bar. Projecting from the upper end of each bracket E<4> is a nut e<1>, which engages a screw e<2> rotatably mounted in a slot e<3> in an arm e<4> which is pivoted to the machine and connected by a link e<5> to a crank arm e<6> on a horizontal shaft e<7> actuated by a lever e<8> which carries a catch e<9> adapted to co-operate with a toothed quadrant e<10>. Movement of the lever e<8> in one direction or the other increases or reduces the tension on the warp threads, the lever being held in its adjusted position by engagement of the catch e<9> with the quadrant e<10>. The lower clamping members E<1> can be raised or lowered at one or both ends by turning one or both of the adjusting screws e<2>. The Provisional Specification describes a selector which engages each warp thread with a forward movement and transfers it with a diagonal movement to the separator, the movement of the selector in relation to that of the separator being so timed that the selector transfers a thread on to the separator whilst the latter is making its forward or spacing movement and commences its return stroke before such forward movement is completed. Means are also provided whereby any thread that the selector fails to transfer is prevented from getting behind any of the remaining threads, such means comprising a deflecting plate mounted on the carriage so as to push back the foremost unselected warp threads as the carriage travels past them.
