Abstract
A stand is disclosed that is capable of being used to support either a large disposable barbecue or a small disposable barbecue depending on the way up the stand is placed. The stand is a framework formed in the shape of a truncated pyramid. The smaller area 10b of the truncated pyramid is designed to be parallel to the larger area 10a and spaced vertically therefrom. The framework 10 is formed by two rectangular members 11 and 12 which are joined together and spaced apart by ten sloped struts 13. The size and shape of the larger area 10a of the truncated pyramid is designed to support a large disposable barbecue preferably by receiving the base of the barbecue within the perimeter of the member 11 so as to prevent the disposable barbecue from sliding off the stand.
Description
2341538 STAND FOR A COOKING DEVICE The present invention relates to a
stand for a cooking device.
Recently disposable barbecues have come on the market and are commonly available in two standard sizes. A difficulty with these disposable barbecues is that the trays containing the coals become very hot in use and can damage the surface upon which they are placed.
According to a first aspect of the present invention where is provided a stand comprising a first region operable to support a small disposable barbecue and a second region operable to support a large disposable barbecue the arrangement being such that the first region is spaced vertically from the second region.
Preferably the first region is operable to support a small disposable barbecue when the stand is one way up and the second region is operable to support a large disposable barbecue when the stand is inverted.
The stand preferably comprises a first region and a second region, the area of the second region being larger in than the area of the first region, the arrangement being such that when the stand is one way up the first region is uppermost and when the stand is inverted the second region is uppermost.
The first region is preferably formed with an opening adapted to receive a small disposable barbecue.
The second region preferably forms an opening adapted to receive a large disposable barbecue.
2 The stand preferably comprises a number of sloped portions each portion extending between the first region and the second region.
The first region and the second region are each preferably a rectangular shape. The opening formed in the first region is preferably a rectangular 5 shape.
The stand preferably comprises four rectangular sloped portions each extending between the perimeter of the first region and the perimeter of the second region.
The stand is preferably a truncated pyramid shape.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a stand operable to support a barbecue tray, the stand being adapted to receive further stands in a stackable manner.
The stand is preferably operable to support a small disposable barbecue tray and a large disposable barbecue tray.
The stand is preferably operable to receive a small disposable barbecue when the stand is one way up and support a large disposable barbecue when the stand is inverted.
The stand is preferably formed with four sloped sides.
The stand is preferably a truncated pyramid shape.
The invention may include any combination of the features or limitations re,Ferred to herein.
3 In order that the present invention is more readily understood, an embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a stand disposed to support a large disposable 5 barbecue; and Figure 2 shows a stand disposed to support a small disposable barbecue.
As shown in the drawings, the Figures represent a single stand that is capable of being used to support either a large disposable barbecue or a small disposable barbecue depending on the way up the stand is placed.
As shown in Figure 1, the stand is a framework formed in the shape of a truncated pyramid which in Figure 1 is shown inverted, ie with the larger area base portion 10a of the truncated pyramid uppermost. The smaller area portion 10b of the truncated pyramid is designed to be parallel to the base portion 10a and spaced vertically from the base portion 10a.
The framework 10 is formed by two rectangular members 11 and 12 which are joined together and spaced apart by ten sloped struts 13.
The size and shape of the base portion 10a of the truncated pyramid is designed to support a large size disposable barbecue preferably by receiving the base of the barbecue within the perimeter of the member 11 so as to prevent the disposable barbecue from sliding off the stand. The struts 13 may thus directly contact the outermost surface of the large size disposable barbecue in use in this arrangement. Alternatively, an uppermost perimeter rim of the large disposable barbecue may rest on the rectangular member 11.
4 As shown in Figure 2, the stand may be inverted so that the base portion 10a is now designed to rest on a suitable surface. The smaller area portion 10b of the stand is now uppermost and the member 12 defining the perimeter of the reduced area portion 10b is provided with additional framework members 15 so as to form an opening 16 whose size and shape is adapted to receive the base of a small disposable barbecue. The outermost surface of the sides of the small disposable barbecue may thus directly contact the framework member 15. Alternatively, an uppermost perimeter rim of the small disposable barbecue may rest on the framework member 15.
It will be appreciated that the stand described above could be modified in a number of ways. First of all, instead of being made of a wire framework the stand could be made from a flat blank with fold up portions to form the basic shape of the large area base of the truncated pyramid. The fold up portions would form the sloped sides of the truncated pyramid.
The size and shape of the stand may be adapted to fit disposable barbecues of alternative shapes such as, but not limited to, circular, square or oval shapes.
The material used for the stand can be chosen from any suitable heat resistant material such as, but not limited to, either a suitable plastics material or metal or metal coated plastics material.
