Abstract

The device comprises a scraper member 3 and a Second Scraper member fully adjustable attached to a flexible shaped rod 10 characterised by said second Scraper member, being constructed with a roller ball bearing 11 to act in use between projecting teeth 15 on the outer surface of a rotary soil element 16, to facilitate the free running, and cleaning of soil particle build up on the said outer surface, of the rotary soil element 16.

Description

2341303 Agricultural Implements Improvements to Scraper Members working in
conjunction with Rotary Soil Cultivating Element This invention relates to scraper members working in conjunction with a rotary soil element with projecting teeth.
There is known rotary soil elements with scrapers mounted in such a way to run between the projecting teeth.
For improved cleaning of sticky soil particles and removing of hard materials from the surface and between the projecting teeth of the rotary soil element it is particularly useful to set the front cleaning end of the scraper to the lowest part of the rotary soil element just clear of the ground.
During wet sticky conditions the known scraper designs due to their length allows soil to build up on the surface of the rotary roll element which build up layer by layer forcing the scraper away from the surface of the roll element, exerting pressure between roll element and scraper cleaning face working end, producing rapid wear and causing a dragging or slowing effect to the forward motion of the rotary roll, therefore more power requirement is needed or the roll stops turning. Also, with the scraper fitted near to the ground level soil builds up and puts upward pressure on the scraper-cleaning end producing extra wear between scraper and roll surface.
An object of this invention is to provide a scraper or scrapers which has ridged adjustments and constant contact with the surface between projecting teeth of the rotary soil element where the cleaning action takes place to reduce sticky soil build up pressure from the surface of the rotary soil element, therefore, reducing wear on the surface of the rotary roll element, and the working face of the scraper and to facilitate the free running and cleaning of soil particle build up on the surface of the soil rotary element.
According to this invention there is provided a scraper member and a second scraper member attached to a flexible shaped bar, characterised by said scraper members being constructed to act in use to clean the surface between projecting teeth of the soil contacting rotary roll element, whereby each said scraper member interact, providing inward working pressure to maintain said scrapers working end faces with exact contact to the surface of the said rotary soil element, facilitating the free running and cleaning of the soil particle build up on the said surface of the rotary soil element.
Preferably the scraper member has at the working end a chisel shape, which the point and the adjacent surface forms a cleaning face, attached close to the working end is a flexible shaped roll which is partly or fully threaded which is adjustably fixed at its most upper part position and is fixed to the scraper member at its lowest position. A second scraper member fitted with a ball bearing is fitted to an intermediate position on the flexible rod to contact with the outer projecting part of the rotary element surface.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect reference will now be made by way of example to some embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings.
2 iv Fit>. 1. shows a perspecti e view of a first embodiment of the invention as viewed lookinR axially from one end.
Fig.2. Shows a similar perspective view With the teeth omitted from the roll for clarity, viewed looking axially from one end.
0 As shown in the drawings a double acting scraper design adapted to keep the rotary roll surface clean, free from sticky soil particles. The scraper elements 3) Fig 1 are mounted to enter between the rows of projecting teeth 15. The roll is pulled in the direction A, the rotary element rotates in the direction B allowing the scraper 33 to clean the soil particles from between the projecting teeth 15 and from the surface 1 of the rotary element 16. The scraper 3 is fixed at the none scraping end to a longitudinally bar 4 by means of U bolt 5, bar 4 is suspended by brackets 6 supported by framework channel 7. The shaped bar 10 Fig 2 is threaded into scraper J3 at the point 17 locked in position with hex nut14. The top of the flexible shaped rod 10 passes through a hole in a ridged angle iron 8 and is locked in position with hex nuts 9 to give the adjustably desired exact contact to the chisel shaped scraper cleaning face 2. The second W scraper 18 complete with attached ball bearing 11 is fixed to the shaped rod at an interTnediate position, adjustable up or down, in or out of contact by means of hex nuts 13). When sticky soil particles build up on the surface 1 of the rotary soil element 16 this exerts pressure in the direction C on scraper 3 at the face 2 of the chisel shape working end scraper member -3), this pressure causes bar 10 to flex which introduces pressure in the direction of D to the second scraper 18 facilitating the cleaning of the soil particle build up. This flexible action also facilitates movement to follow uneven surfaces on the rotary soil element.
