Abstract

The device has an axially movable tube (17) and a piston (18) received in an oil cylinder. In the event of shock loading on the hinge, valves (32,32a) open under the oil pressure to absorb the shocks. When the tube moves vertically, the load produced by hydraulic pressure, is applied uniformly to a shaft (40). Preferably, the device is provided with a release mechanism in the form of a cylinder arrangement (70), activated by heat, in the event of fire.
