Description

2339162 POLE POSITION This invention relates to a device for use in
aligning curtain rails or similar objects.
When window or door curtains or similar fabrics are being hung in a domestic or commercial building or similar environment it is first necessary to mark accurately the position of the curtain rail fixings on the wall. These fixings are typically screwed to the wall by appropriate fastenings which require the location of suitable holes in the wall.
The professional tradesman, keen amateur or DIY enthusiast, can have considerable difficulty in determining the location of the correct positioning of the fixing holes both in the vertical and horizontal planes to ensure symmetry both with the left and right hand ends of the curtain rail. Complete symmetry between the left and right hand ends is essential.
For the sake of appearance and efficient operation of the running mechanism it is essential that the curtain rail or rails are accurately aligned. Correct alignment by conventional means, for example, with the use of a ruler marker pen and set square is time - consuming and subject to potential error unless great care is taken and it is always advisable to check measurements before any of the fixing holes are drilled.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device which eliminates all of the above mentioned problems with no possibility of error, and to enable curtain rails and their equivalent to be accurately and speedily located.
According to the present invention there is a device made from a thin gauge metal or plastic material but not limited to such, which in the plan, measures 320mm long times 320 wide but not limited to such size or sizes as variations may be required depending on the application.
The body of the device is shaped generally as shown in Figure ox 1. A square segment as shown consists of a number of rows I symmetrically spaced holes of 5mm or similar but not limited to such size. Typically the holes are located in a grid pattern consisting of say seven (7) rows and seven (7) columns at say 20mm spacings but not limited to this specific layout which is given purely given by way of example only.
Page 1 Page 2 At each intersection of the line of rows and columns there is a hole 2 through which a marking pen or drill can be placed in the exact location as required.
All the diagonally opposite segment there are 'Located two fences 3, as shown in elevation in Pigure 2, and bent at 90 degrees to the main body the height of these fences being such that it forms a secure location when placed in either corner of a window or door opening.
A specific embodiment of the invention could be some appropriate marking on the top surface 4 of the main body of the device by any suitable means, for example, screen printing or transfer giving instructions as to the correct use of the device and could include, for example, information of a promotional nature.
An important feature and benefit of the device is that due to its symmetry of design it can be used to align fixing holes accurately for both the left hand side and right hand side corners of either a window or door opening.
