Description

VIBRATION SUPRESSING SUPPORT TABLE.
This invention relates to vibration eupnression in hi-fi equipmen t, Support tables for high-fi0elity equip-apnt are relatively exren.sive and all seem to contain metal, glass or other substances which are.canable of resonance. Mine has none of these. After various design attempts it was discovered by calculation that even screws can pick up vibrations and in certain circumstances intensify same. Ergo, most metals can have the same effect. I then designed a table similar to the preseit but with the outer panels suspended from the table it.-elf, but the airborne resonances could thus cause vibration of the table. I therefore attached the outer walls to the base allowing the table itself to 'float' inside the surrounding shield.
The table itself is supported by a bed of air filled DOlythene 2. Theoretically two lavers should be $ufficient but I found that three layers gave optimum results, thnugh of course more or lets layers can be used if dpsired, These layers are glued together ane to the table and subtable 3. which supports them. The sub-table is supported by strips of expanded polystyrene 4 which are placed to form a square, oblong or diagonal, They are then glued to the base 5. The base is then suYrounded by veneered or otherwise decorpted material 7. which is glued to the base and reaching to just above the level of table 1. A decorative surround 9 is then glued to the top of the protective wall to prevent fireign matter falling.into the interior and impairing the efficiency of the unit, Rubber feet 6 are then glued to the base to lespen the vibrations enteling the unit from below.
MATERIALS USED IN CONSTRUCTION.
1,-3,-5. Plywood, Chipboard, Compound bovad etc; 2. Air fil.led polythene. (Bubblewrap) 4. Expanded polystyrene 6. Rubber or composition feet.
7, Plywood, Chipboard, Compound board etc; (Finished) B. Glue or si.milar adhesive, 9. Decorative surround, To prevent foreign matter falling into cavity.
