In general, natural marble is also used as marble used as a sink top plate, furniture, or interior and exterior materials for construction, but recently, artificial marble is often used.
Such artificial marble is widely used as an interior finishing material for commercial or general housing due to its hardness like natural marble, flexible workability like wood, and decorative characteristics that give various colors and elegant textures.
In particular, artificial marble has no fine holes on its surface, and even if it is constructed like tile, wood, granite or marble, the seams are not prominent, so bacteria or mold cannot live there, so it is widely used in washbasin sinks.
Artificial marble has a thermoplastic resin and an inorganic filler as its main components, and in addition, additives for antibacterial properties, color spots for beauty, and pigments are included.
Examples of thermoplastic resins include polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and ABS resin, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polymethyl methacrylate, and polyacrylate. ), polyamide, polycarbonate, polyether, polyester, etc. are used. Commercially available artificial marble is mainly composed of acrylic resin (methyl methacrylate) and inorganic filler of aluminum hydroxide.
When the artificial marble is used as a sink or an interior/exterior material for construction, in order to obtain a rectangular artificial marble plate of a certain size, a pre-produced artificial marble disc is cut into a certain size, and in this process, scrap is inevitably generated. do.
At this time, since the small plate material (scrap) cut from the artificial marble disc has been generally discarded, material loss is large, and such waste material not only weakens the ground by landfilling and generates dust, but also surrounds the landfill. There are problems that cause environmental pollution, such as polluting water and air, and there has been a demand for resource recycling.
