Abstract

A ball bearing (20) is designed particularly for use in an electronically controlled steering mechanism for automobiles. The bearing is composed of inner and outer rings (11, 12) with a set of balls (13) guided for progressive movement along raceways (14) formed in the innermost surfaces of the rings (11, 12) as is known. The radius of curvature of the raceways (14) is significantly greater than the radius of curvature of the balls, such as 62 to 82 % of the ball diameter and there is a clearance of no more than 5 microns between the balls (13) and the raceways (14).
