Abstract

A sand screw comprises a tubular pole 3 with a screw thread 1 at the lower part, a wheel 2 close to the upper end, to assist screwing the device into sand or soft ground, and optionally to act as a towel rail, and a clamp 4 at the top for attaching a tubular attachment, such as a beach umbrella.

Description

2338251 - 1 THE LEISURE SAND SCREW The invention relates to an anchoring
device that can be screwed into any soft ground. The device will accomodate various articles of leisure equipment, such as a sun umbrella.
With the conventional sun umbrella, the lower supporting pole, has to be pushed into the sand or soft ground by hand,or by hitting it down with the use of a rubber hammer or a piece of wood. When the top pole with the umbrella canopy is connected to the lower pole, the slightest wind can cause the whole structure to collapse.
The object of this invention is to combine the ease of it's erection with positive stability gained.
Accordingly, this invention comprises of a tubular pole, with a screw thread on the lower part,a wheel close to the upper part, and a clamp at the top to connect any tubular attatchment.
Preferably the SAND SCREW would be made in light tubular metal or strong moulded plastic. The wheel part of the invention can also be used as a small towel rail.
A specific embodiment of the invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which; FIGURE 1 shows a front view of the SAND SCREW, with the optional accessory, (sun umbrella),fitted.
FIGURE 2 shows a front view of the SAND SCREW in position in the ground, As shown in Figures 1 and 2,the SAND SCREW comprises a vertical pole 3. having at its lower end, from the tip up to about one third of its length a screw type thread 1.Near to the top of the pole there is a wheel 2, to enable the pole to be turned in a rotational direction, thus screwing the pole into the soft ground or sand.At the very top there is a pressure screw 4,to secure the attachment of an accessory as in FIG 1,showing a sun umbrella in place. The pressure screw 4 can be replaced with a pressure clamp or other known means of attachment.
- 2 The pole 3 is preferably fabricated from metal, which may be treated to prevent corrosion, such as painted or galvanized iron or suitably protected aluminium. A synthetic polymer composition may be used to fabricate the rod. The screw thread position 1 may be found by indentations on the rod or by flanges.

Claims (6)

- 3 CLAIMS
1 A LEISURE SAND SCREW comprising of a pole with a screw type thread on the lower portion, and a fixed wheel near the top of the pole, and at the top of the pole there is a pressure screw.
2 The LEISURE SAND SCREW as claimed in claim 1 having a screwed thread in order for the pole to be screwed into the sand or soft soil.
3 The LEISURE SAND SCREW as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2,has a fixed directional wheel to lower the pole into the sand by means of turning the wheel in a clockwise direction, By turning the wheel in an anti-clockwise direction, the SAND SCREW will be withdrawn from the ground or sand.
4 THE LEISURE SAND SCREW as claimed in claim 2 and 3 has at the top of the pole,a pressure scrwe in order to tighten an aditional piece piece of equipment as in FIG 1, a sun umbrella, after the pole has been securely screwed into the ground or sand.
THE LEISURE SAND SCREW as claimed in claim 1 and as herein described.
6 THE LEISURE SAND SCREW as herein described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings,
