Abstract

A strap wrench for opening screw caps comprises a plastic handle A, a strap B made from a thermoplastic elastomeric material, and a steel pin D which anchors one end of the strap to the handle. The handle has a locating flange F adjacent the steel pin for operatively engaging a peripheral portion of a screw cap, and a cammed surface C adjacent the flange for tightening the strap when the strap is loosely positioned around a screw cap. The strap has a thumb grip E at its free end.

1 k I- Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a jar or bottle opener.
Background of the Invention
Jar openers have been around for many years in various forms to help overcome the resistance caused by the vacuum seal on preserves.
Essential Technical Details.
According to the present invention encompassed in this implement is a handle made of plastic as many modem items in everyday use. Part of the handle is a cam which plays a major part when in use. Fixed to this handle is a flexible strap made from plastic, which will be put about the lid to be removed. This strap is manufactured from a material called T.P. E. (Thermo Plastic Elastomer). The reason this material will be used is the strength it possesses and the close resemblance to rubber which will allow it to grip the side wall of the j ar. The strap will be fixed in place by a stainless steel pin set in the handle to perform an anchorage point. The length of the handle will be such to allow the user to have enough strength to perform the function of removing the lid in comfort. The length of the strap will be long enough to fit around all the different sized lids/tops in use today.

Claims (5)

1. A cam lock twist cap opener as Claim 1 wherein by means of grip performs by T.P.E. strap as shown 'B', the rubber consistency of this material performs the function as described with the strength attributed to this material to give durability.
2. A cam lock twist cap opener as Claim 2 wherein by means of a cam at one end of the handle as shown 'C', to perform the act of pulling down on strap T' to make tight around lid /cap and thus performs the grip of a strong handed person. Without the need to pull the strap fully tight at time of use making it very easy for infirmed individuals to use.
3. A cam lock twist cap opener as Claim 3 wherein a steel pin is used as shown 'D' to anchor strap'B' to handle 'A' for the function of a strong pivot point.
4. A cam lock twist cap opener as Claim 4 wherein a thumb grip at one end of strap'B' to perform and facilitate the pulling process in use while preventing the strap pulling back through handle 'A'.
5. A cam lock twist cap opener as Claim 5 wherein a setting rim T' to enable and assist in the use of this implement when setting up to remove lid/ cap and stop the implement slipping past the desired position when frail and steady hands are using said implement.
