Abstract

A fisherman's seat includes a frame which carries a seat member (4) and a backrest comprising a lower portion (10) pivotally connected to the frame at the level of the seat surface and an upper portion (1), which is pivotally connected to the lower portion (10) and carries a handle (11) at its upper end. The seat member constitutes an access lid to a storage container (5). Connected to the front of the frame are two vertically telescopic legs (6) and connected to the rear of the frame are two wheels (8). The seat may be folded up for transport in a vehicle or wheeled along in the manner of a trolley. The telescopic feet ensure stability of the seat, in use, even on sloping ground.

Description

1 Fisherman's Seat 2337685 The invention relates to a collapsible
fisherman's seat for use on the bank of a river, lake or the like by hobby fishermen and sporting fishermen when angling.
Collapsible fishing stools are known but it is very tiring to use them due to their lack of a backrest. The use of camping or garden chairs by fishermen is also known. These are, however, not suitable for long term use as fishermen's seats due to their low stability. Other stable, foldable seats are often too heavy to be transported to the fishing water and also too bulky. The known fishermen's seats must always be carried, e.g. from a vehicle, to the water's edge where they are to be used, in addition to the usual fishing equipment, which generally necessitates a number of journeys from the vehicle to the fishing location. Also of disadvantage is the fact that they have no fishing rod holder and no container for fishing utensils and they can not be adapted to the frequently sloping ground of the bank.
It is the object of the invention is to provide a comfortable fisherman's seat which may be stowed and transported with the other fishing equipment in the form of a compact, manageable package in a vehicle and is also easily transportable on a path together with other fishing equipment from a vehicle to the fishing location across the open country and is reliably stable, even on sloping ground.
in accordance with the present invention a fisherman's seat includes a frame which supports a seat member, a storage container and a backrest including at 2 least one backrest portion, the backrest portion being pivotally connected by one or more pivotal joints to the frame or to the storage container approximately at the height of the seat member, the height of the backrest portion being substantially equal to the length of the scat, the pivotal joint(s) being lockable, whereby the backrest portion is movable between, and may be locked in, a use position, in which it extends upwardly, and a transport position, in which it extends across the top of the seat member, the top of the baclerest constituting a handle, at least one fishing rod holder being pivotally connected to the frame or to the storage container laterally of the same and being movable between a storage position, in which it is adjacent the frame or container, and a use position, in which that portion of it remote from the connection is spaced from the frame or storage container, wheels being supported by the frame rearwardly of the seat member and telescopically adjustable feet being supported by the frame in the vicinity of the front thereof.
In the preferred embodiment the seat member constitutes an access lid of the storage container. The storage container preferably extends rearwardly of the seat member or alternatively a second storage container is provided rearwardly of the seat member. If there is only a single container access may be had to it via the seat member or a separate cover may be provided. In the event that there are two containers a separate cover will be desirable. Both storage spaces may also have at least one drawer.
The backrest may include only a single backrest portion, but it is preferred that it includes two portions, a lower portion, which is pivotally connected to the frame or storage container, and an upper portion, which is pivotally connected to the lower portion by one or more further lockable pivotal joints and affords 3 the handle by which the seat may be trundled along on its wheels.
The various components of the seat may all be connected to the frame but if the storage container(s) is/are of shape-stable and self-supporting construction, some or all of the backrest, the wheels, the feet and the fishing rod holder(s) may be connected to it/them. If all these components are connected to the selfsupporting storage container then the storage container will effectively constitute at least part of the frame.
The advantages of the fisherman's seat in accordance with the invention reside in the fact that a comfortable seat with an adjustable backrest is combined with a storage container for other fishing equipment and with a trolley-like structure. In the folded up state of the seat a compact manageable package is produced which may be easily transported in a car. It may also easily be carried or 15 trundled along by means of the wheels and the handle at the top of the backrest. The adjustable feet permit the seat to be adapted to sloping ground and thus ensure that a high degree of stability may be achieved. The fishing rod holder or holders may be simply swung from a storage position in which they are closely adjacent the frame or storage container and thus occupy the minimum 20 space to an operational position in which they may be used for holding fishing rods.
Further features of the invention will be apparent from the following description of one exemplary embodiment which is given by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a wheeled fisherman's seat in the configuration in 4 which it is used; Figure 2 is a side view of the seat in the folded configration; Figure 3 shows the seat in the configuration in which it is wheeled along; and Figure 4 is a front view of the seat.
The seat includes a support frame with a generally horizontal portion and an upstanding portion.
Supported by the frame in front of and behind the upstanding portion, respectively, are front and rear storage containers or compartments 5 and 9. The frame also supports or carries a seat member 4, a backrest 1, 10, adjustable feet 6,6' and wheels 8,8'.
The backrest is of two-part construction and comprises a lower portion 10 is connected by pivotal joints 3 to the upstanding portion of the frame substantially at the level of the seat member 4 or only slightly thereabove and an upper portion 10 connected to the lower portion by further pivotal joints 2.
The joints 2,3 are on each side of the seat and each include a frictional washer, a clamping screw and a manually rotatable handle or lock nut, whereby the backrest may be moved to and secured in any desired angular position.
The upper end of the backrest constitutes a handle 11 which is used for handling the fisherman's seat when it is moved or wheeled along. The height of the lower portion 10 is substantially the same as, that is to say only slightly greater than, the length, in the front to rear direction, of the seat member 4, which constitutes the lid of the container 5. The seat member 4 may be moved to gain access to the interior of the container 5 and optionally also the container 9, though this may also have its own movable lid or door.
The wheels 8,8' are mounted on the seat frame with substantially horizontal axles and spaced from the rear edge of the seat member so as to enhance the stability of the seat.
Situated on each side of the seat, connected to the side walls of the container 5, are respective fishing rod holders 7,7'. These are pivotally connected to the container 5 by hinged joints and may be swung out of the transport position adjacent to its side wall into a spaced or operative position, in which their upper end is spaced from the container 5, and may be locked therein. Also arranged on the side walls of the container 5 and secured thereto are respective adjustable feet 6,6'. These feet are individually telescopically adjustable in the vertical direction and may be locked in any position. They serve to adapt the fisherman's seat to the ground of the bank and permit the chair to be used in a stable manner on inclined ground.
When the seat is to be transported in a vehicle, the adjustable feet 6,6' are retracted so that they do not project substantially beyond the outer contours of the container 5. The fisher rod holders 7,7' are pivoted up against the container 5. The backi-est portion 10 is situated directly above the seat member 4 and the backrest portion 1 is situated directly in front of the front wall of the container 5. When a seat is to be moved by hand across the countryside, the backi- est is erected into the configuration shown in Figure 1 and the clamping screws in the joints 2,3 are tightened. The seat is then tilted about the wheels and wheeled along in a manner similar to a handcart by means of the handle 11 on the upper end of the backrest. When the seat is to be used on the bank of a river or the 6 like, the backrest is secured at the desired angle and the feet are extended by the appropriate amount to produce the required angle of the seat surface.
It will be appreciated that numerous modifications may be effected to the construction described above. Thus the backrest and the wheels may be connected to the storage container 5,9 instead of to the frame and in this event the container will effectively constitute at least part of the frame.
