Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing tackle boxes This invention relates to boxes for the carriage and storage of fishing tackle used by anglers.
Afishing tackle box in accordance with the invention comprises a rigid box body having an open top closable by a lid forming a seat, adjustable supporting feet, a demountable back rest for a person seated on the box, and one or more demountable fishing rod supports.
An embodiment of the invention, by way of example, will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a box accord ing to the invention, Figure 2 shows a side view of the box, and Figure 3 shows a plan view of the box.
As shown in the drawings, the box comrises a rectangular box body 1 formed by a unitary moulding of a plastics or glass fibre material with a front bottom wall 2, side walls 3,4 and a back wall 5. The box body is open topped and is closed by a lid 6 of similar material attached to the back wall by hinges 7. The lid can be held shut by a catch or lock 8, The dimensions and structural strength of the box body and lid are such that, when closed, the lid can be used as a seat.
The box body is supported at each of its lower corners by feet 9 which are adjustable in height to enable the box to be levelled when placed on uneven ground. Each foot comprises a base 10 on the lower end of a screw 11 inserted within a threaded housing, the height of the foot being adjusted by rotation of the screw. A threaded locking collar 12 is mounted on each screw to prevent inadvertent rotation of the screw by tightening the collar against the housing. The two front housings are formed by cylindrical mouldings 12 unitary with the box body.
The rear housings are provided by aluminium tubes 14 at the rear edges of the side walls contiguous with the body moulding.
The tubes 14 extend upwardly to the top edges of the side and rear wals and are bushed at their upper ends to provide sockets 15 housing removable posts 16. A rectangular sheet 17 of canvas or plastics material is attached to the posts along opposite edges to form a back rest 18 for a person occupying the seat-lid 6. The lower edge of the sheet is spaced upwardly from the top of the back wall to provide space for partially opening the lid (as shown in dash-dot lines in Figure 2) without removing the back rest. Thumb screws 19 in threaded transverse holes in the tubes can be tightened around the posts to hold the back rest in position when required.
A short aluminium tube 25 is mounted on each side wall by screws or other suitable means at a short distance below the top edge of the wall to form a socket to receive a vertical leg 20 of an L-shaped support rod 21. The leg 20 is clamped within the socket by a thumb-screw 22 which can be slackened to remove the support or allow its position to be adjusted vertically and angularly about the axis of the leg 20. The free end of the other, horizontal, leg 23 of the support carries a screw threaded adaptor 24 with a locking screw 24a for the attachment of a fishing rod rest of conventional type. Only one support need be provided for each box but a socket should preferably be provided on both side walls for the convenience of both left and right handed persons.
During carriage or storage of the box, the back rest and the rod support or supports are removed after releasing the respective thumb screws and can be housed within the box body. Additionally the interior of the box body can be fitted with any desired trays, clips, drawers and compartment for holding the back rest and rod support or supports, flies, bait, tackle and other impedimenta which an angler requires.
For convenience in carriage a shoulder strap 25 has its ends attached to each side wall by rotatable anchor plates 26.
1. A fishing tackle box for anglers comprising a rigid box body supported on adjustable feet and having an open top closable by a lid hingedly connected to the box body, the box body and the lid, when closed, together forming a seat upon which the angler may sit whilst fishing, a back rest for a person seated on the seat, said back rest being detachably mounted on the box body to the rear of the lid, and one or more fishing rod support members on one or both sides of the box body for supporting the fishing rod(s) of the angler.
2. A fishing tackle box according to claim 1, wherein the back rest comprises a web of material connected between two posts detachably receivable into sockets provided on either side of the rigid box body.
3. Afishing tackle box according to claim 1 or 2, including a shoulder strap for carrying the box attached thereto on the opposite side.
4. A fishing tackle box for anglers constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described and shown in the accompanying drawings.
