Abstract

The support comprises a glass rest 12 pivoted at 3 to the vertical post 10 of a base unit and biassed outwardly by a spring 6. As the glass is filled, the support automatically pivots back to a vertical position (Fig 5). The height of the support on the post is adjusted by bolt 4 and screw plate 5. Removable weights 7 compensate for varying masses of the drinks vessel on the support.

Description

2336997 1.
GLASSSUPPORT This invention has been designed to solve a problem related to the serving of beverages from draught taps, i.e. lager, bitter and carbonated drinks.
1 have observed how bartenders are tied up for the duration of the filling of a glass from such draught taps, due to the necessity for the barman to continually hold the glass during filling; and how this time consuming process could be better spent if the bartender were able to rest a glass under a tap, whilst attending to other matters i.e. taking payment.
The aim of the glass support is to solve the problem of the filling of glasses, by supporting the glass during the pouring process. In addition, the glass support will allow the bartender to adjust the angle at which the glass initially rests and thereby dictate - to some extent - the level of head received on the drink The glass support may be constructed from plastic, rubber, metal or wood depending on the environment for its use and the demands of the customer.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective of the glass support Figures 2 and 3 show a rear view of how the glass support can be adjusted to alter the height at which the glass rests.
Figures 4 and 5 show how the spring is designed to allow the glass to settle in an upright position under the increasing load of the liquid.
2.
As shown in the Fig 1, the glass support is constructed essentially from three parts, 10, 11 and 12.
and 12 are connected by a hinge 3 to allow for the adjustment of the angle of 12 as illustrated in figures 4 & 5.
Strips of rubber 1 & 2 or similar material will be adhered to 12 as illustrated in Fig 1, 4 & 5. These will reduce the level of ffiction between the glass and the glass support and thus help to maintain the position of the glass.
A metal hinge 3 has been incorporated to allow for a range of motion of 12, relative to that of 10. This feature has been incorporated to allow 12 (and subsequently the glass) to be angled and thus reduce the level of head received during the initial stage of filling.
The bolt 4 and screw plate 5 allow the position of 10 to be adjusted relative to that of 11 as illustrated in Fig 2 & 3. These two parts (10 & 11) will slide together by the use of tongue and groove construction.
A strip of plastic, metal or similar material 6 will be used to provide resistance, that will enable the glass to remain at an angle when placed on the support whilst empty and yet allow the glass to upright once full. This spring will be fitted to 10 by way of adhesives and screws. it will not be secured to 12.
To allow for the differences in mass between the use of plastic and glass beakers and to adjust the initial angle of the glass rest; removable weights 7 have been integrated into the design and fitted to 12.
A lip 8 at the rear of the base of the glass support as illustrated in the side elevation has been included to allow for the fitting of a G- clamp or screws, to fix the glass support to the surface on which it is seated.

Claims (7)

  1. A support including a base, post and rest, designed to accommodate a drinking vessel.
A support as claimed in Claim 1 where the height of the post is length adjustable thus altering the overall height of the support.
A support as claimed in Claim 1 where the glass rest section can be angled relative to that of the post - by way of a hinge - through a wide range.
A support as claimed in Claim 3 where the hinged glass rest section utilises a spring for resistance to movement.
  2. 2.
  3. 3.
  4. 4.
    5.
A support as claimed in Claim 3 where the range of angle for the glass rest section of the support will allow for a reduction in the level of head provided from the filling of a drinking vessel with a beverage or similar liquid.
A support as claimed in Claim 3 where the initial angle of the glass rest may be adjusted by the use of weights.
A support as claimed in any preceding claim including a holder for articles such as drinking vessels.
A drinking vessel support substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
