Abstract

A disposable bib having a 'one-way' top sheet that allows moisture in, but stays dry. The bib may be made up of three layers, with a absorbent core that serves to 'lock' moisture in, and waterproof soft paper-like backing. Use of a paper-like backing may serve to reduce irritation to babies caused by conventional plastics backing materials.

Description

2336094 DISPOSABLE BIB This invention relates to baby towelling bibs which
have PN.C backing orjust double sided towelling.
Such bibs are well known, but once soiled or wet with juice or dribble baby has to have a clean dry one put on. The soiled one then goes into the wash. Wet soiled bibs are not very hygienic. This occurs some 10-15 times per day, but can be as much as 15-20 times per day if baby is teething. Babies produce more saliva from the age of three months old hence they dribble more.
Conventional bibs when wet can cause babies under chin and chest to become wet thus causing the under chin to become very sore, and if baby suffers from sensitive skin complaints such as eczema can become irritated and inflamed. Also once babies clothes become wet they have to be changed, which could be several times per day, an awful lot of unnecessary washing, and expense as you need to buy enough changes of cloths.
The object of this invention is to keep babies skin as dry as possible and to keep clothes dry. Also to have a bib which only need be changed 4-5 times per day.
1 The top layer would be of a material which would let moisture in, the core would be of a composition which will hold the moisture, therefore holding it back from the top layer thus keeping skin dry. Finally the backing material would be of a soft paper like material which would not let wet out onto clothes.
The object of this invention is to provide a bib which would only have to be changed 4 or 5 times per day, and to keep babies skin under the chin as dry as possible. Also to keep babies cloths dry without making baby uncomfortable.
Although primarily this invention is aimed for babies it will be utilised for the elderly and handicapped, in care or at home who have to be fed because they are to disabled or ill to fed themselves. Certain disabilities, such as Cerebral palsy cause the child or adult to dribble constantly.
This invention would come in four sizes, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, child size and adult size. The larger baby bib would have a tie around the neck and body to prevent baby putting the bib into the mouth.
This invention would either have a tie fastening or a velcro fastening, or possibly one which just pops over the head, which would have elasticity around the neck in order to stretch over the head.
2 This invention would come in various colours possibly to distinguish gender and age.
It would be quilted or sectioned via decorative stitching or gluing.

Claims (10)

1. Disposable bibs keep babies under chin, cloths and chest dry, thus preventing sores and chaffing due to material which conventional bibs are made from, which stay wet. This bib keeps babies clothes dryer thus preventing a wet chest and having to change babies clothes several times per day.
2. A disposable bib is comprised of three layers, giving dryness and protection to babies skin and clothes.
3. A disposable bib as claimed in claim 1 has a one way top sheet, which allows moisture in, but stays dry, thus keeping skin dry.
4. A disposable bib as claimed in claim 2 has an absorbent core, which locks the moisture in and does not allow back through the top sheet, as in claim 1.
4 5. A disposable bib as claimed in claim 3 has a water proof soft paper like backing, which does not allow moisture to pass through, thus preventing babies clothes getting wet. And because of the soft paper like backing, it does not allow baby to get sticky and irritable as p.v.c backed bibs.
5. A disposable bib will help prevent the flare up of skin problems such as eczema, as keeps babies skin dryer.
6. A disposable bib will only have to be changed 4 or 5 times per day. Where as conventional bibs need changing at the most 15 to 20 times per day.
7. A disposable bib, once used, you just throw in the bin.
8. A disposable bib will tie at the neck for baby's 3-6 months old, and at the neck and body for baby's 6-12 months old. This prevents baby putting the bib into the mouth.
9. A disposable bib would also be suited to the handicapped.
10. A disposable bib would also be suited for the elderly.
