Abstract
A bracket (10) for use with rectangular cross-section channel, tube or bar material comprises a body (11) having a rectangular cavity (12) to receive an item of said material, and mounting means (15) integral with the body (11) for attachment to another item.
Description
BRACKET 2336040 This invention relates to brackets for use with
rectangular cross-section channel, tube or bar material.
Rectangular cross-section steel channel is used for cabl tray and pipe tray mounting and to support casings and cabinets for equipment in many industrial and commercial buildings and constructions, and one particular gauge of 4lmm width per side is installations such as oil other process plant. This thickness of about 2.5mm is that it is often used for support use is j oining systems channel material frequently used in major platforms, power stations and 4lmm gauge, which has a wall sufficiently strong and rugged structural purposes such as mechanisms or bracing. The bracket may further comprise a fifth body having a rectangular cavity to receive an item of said mater-Lal aligned with or at right angles to each other, and intearal with the body.
Said mounting means may be clampable on a web of an I-section beam, channel or other section.
Preferably also the bracket is welded together to be integral. Alternatively adhesives may be used, or the bracket may be cast or moulded in one piece.
Preferably also the mounting means and the or each body are provided with securing means for securing to each of said item of said material and/or another item.
The invention also consists in a set of brackets for use with rectangular cross-section channel, tube or bar material comprising at 'Least two brackets of which each bracket is in accordance with any one of: the preceding claims.

Referring initially to Figure 1 of the drawings, and especially views la and if, this first example 10 of a bracket has a steel body 11 of generally cubic shape and having a rectangular cavity 12 open to one side 13 to receive an item of rectangular cross-section channel, tube or bar material. In this particular example, 4lmm gauge steel channel is to be used with and received into the cavity 1.2.
The side 14 of the body 11 opposite said one side 13 is CLosed by mounting means in the form of a rectangular cross-section tube 15 including a rectangular cavity 16 to receive another item of steel channel. The cavities 12 and 16 are at rian-- angles to each other. The body 11 and -tube L5 are welded together to be integral with one another and ruggea. Holes 17 are provided in each flat surface for use with bolts or set screws (not shown) to secure the lenaths cf channel in t_he cavities 1-2 and 16 in the bracket 10 by usIng nuts on t--.e inside of the channel.
Referring now additionally to Figure 2 of the drawinas, the bracket 1-0 is shown in use mounted on a vertical length of channel!8 positicned passing through the cavity 'L6 in the -tube 15. A hcrizont-al length of channel 19 is supported by tI-e bracket 7-0 by havna one end secured in the cavity 12 in the body 11 cf the bracket 10.
Figure 3 shows the second example 20 of a bracket according to the oresent invention, in which a body 21 is similar to L-he body II of the bracket 10 but cf- greater length. The body 21 _Js provided w--'th mcunting means in the form of a flat rectangular plate 22 for mounting the bracket 20 on a 6 flat surface which may be horizontal as shown in Figure 3 or at any angle.
The plate 22 is welded to the body 21 and has plain holes 17, and the body has pairs of holes 17 for fixing purposes.
The Figures 2 and 3 are a composite view of a vertical channel 18 mounted in position by a bracket 20 and carrying a bracket 1-0, which in turn, supports one end of horizontal channel 19.
Figure 4 shows a third example 30 of a bracket according to the present invention in which a body 31 is similar to the body 11 of the bracket 10 which its cavity 32 similar to the cavity 12 in the body 11 and shown in Figure 4 with its longitudinal axis horizontal. However, in this third example 30 both ends 33 and 34 of the cavity 32 are open so that a length of channel can be slid along and through the cavity 32 to any desired position.
The bracket 30 is also provided with a tube 35 similar to the tube 15 of the bracket 10, but the tube 35 is seated on top of and welded to the body 31 for mounting the bracket on an end of another length of channel.
Figure 5 shows a fourth example 40 of a bracket according to the present invention in which a body 41 is similar to the body l! of the bracket 10, and is aligned with mounting means in the form of a rectangular crosssection tube 45 similar to the rectangular tube 7-5 of the bracket 10. Consequenty the body 41 and the tube 45 are a contiguous whole into each end of which can be received one end of each of two lengths of channel. Those lengths of channel are therefore bracketed together end to end using this third exam-cle 40.

The tenth example of the present invention is shown in Figure 11 and is a modl-.'::icat-on of the ninth example 90 described above, in that the otherwise flat mounting plate 95 has a lateral extension 106 projecting away from the body 9j- to be of L-shape in cross-section. The extension 106 hel-os to locate IC-1.1e mounting plate alongside an edge whatever it is to be mounzed on, which maybe exterior of a length c-,'-: channel. Ccnsequently in this instance, the bracket ICO can be mounted on the exterior of a length of channel and receive an end of another length of channel into the other end 93 of the body 91.
Figure 12 shows the eleventh example 110 of the invention which is a modification of the tenth example 100 described above. The mounting plate 95 and its lateral extension 106 have been longitudinally extended as far below the body 91 at 115 and 116 as they already extended above it.
The twelfth exam-ole 120 of the invention is shown in Figure 13 and is a modification of the eleventh examule 110 in that a lateral extension 126 similar to the lateral extension 106, 116 is alongside and is welded to a body 121 instead of projecting away from it. Thus the bracket 120 can be mounted into a right-angular recess. In addition the body 121, which is similar to the body 91, has been lengthened.
Figure 14 shows the thirteenth example 130 of the invention which is a modification of the tenth example 100 shown in Figure 11. A body 131 is similar to the body (31, and a L-shaped cross-section mounting plate 135 and extension 136 are similar to the mounting plate 95 and extension 106. However, the bracket 130 includes a second body 137 mounted on the outer face of the extension 136 to receive an end of another length of channel.
The fourteenth example 140 of the invention is shown in Figure 15 which is a modification of the thirteenth example of Figure 14. All of the parts of the thirteenth example 130 are present, but the mounting plate 135 and its lateral extension 136 have been extended longitudinally at 145 and 146 respectively in the same way as occurred from the tenth example 100 of Figure 11 to the eleventh example 110 of Figure 12.
Figure 16 shows a fifteenth example of --ne invention in which -he bracket 150 is similar to the bracket io of the first example and has a body 1-51 and mounting means including a tube 155. However:he includes a spacer 156 on the opposite side from and aligned with the body 151 which stiffened plate 157 of the same width and mounting means also of the tube 155 then carries a about the same length and width as the tube 155. A space 158 between the plate 157 and the facing side of the tube 155 can receive and be clamped on a horizontal web on an!-section beam to mount the bracket 150 and use it to support and interconnect one or two lengths of channel.

The mounting plate 162 has a lateral extension 163 down one side to be of!-shape cross-section.
In use the mounting plate 162 is mounted on the outside of a length of channel with the lateral extension 163 helping to locate the mounting plate beside an edge of the channel, and stiffening the mounting plate 162. one end of each of two further lengths of channel can be inserted in the bodies 51 and 57 to lie at 45 degrees to the llenath of channel mounting the bracket 160. Claims (19)
1. A bracket for use with rectangular cross-section channel, tube or bar material comprising a body having a rectangular cavity to receive an item of said material, and mounting means integral with the body for attachment to another item.
2. A bracket according to Claim 1 wherein the mounting means is for another item of said material.
3. A bracket according to Claim 2 wherein the mounting means 'ncludes a rectangular cavity to receive another item of said material.
4. A bracket according to Claim 3 wherein the cavity in the body and the cavity in the mounting means are so relatively d-is)osed that, in use, items of said material received in the cavities are at an angle to one another.

12. A bracket according to Claim 11 further comprising a fourth body having a rectangular cavity to receive an item of said material aligned with cr at an angle to each other, and integral with the body.

13. A bracket according to Claim 12 further comprising a fifth body having a rectangular cavity to receive an item of said material aligned with or at an angle to each other, and integral with the body.
14. A bracket according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said mounting means is clampable on a web of an!-section beam, channel or other section.

16. A bracket according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the mounting means and the o_r each body are provided with securing means for securing to each of said item of said material and/or another item.
