Abstract

A nozzle assembly for connection to a pressurised source of fire extinguishant comprises a heat collector (6) normally secured to the exterior of an extension wall (8) of a nozzle body (1) by an annular bead of low melting point alloy (9) which is adapted to liquefy at a predetermined temperature, the heat collector (6) normally holding a plug (10) against part of the nozzle body (1) to close a discharge opening for extinguishant and prevent discharge therethrough, the heat collector (6) and plug (1) being released from the nozzle body (1), so as to allow extinguishant discharge, upon melting of the alloy (9) by conduction of heat from the heat collector (6), the plug providing a sliding seal against the nozzle body until the heat collector is completely detached therefrom.
